Giant popcorn identification....
    #23456673 - 07/19/16 04:12 PM (7 years, 7 months ago)

Hi all, found this large yellow popcorn looking thing growing on grass not too far away from an oak tree (least I think it's an oak... forgot to check). Gills appear spongey and yellow.

In the north east of England...

Sounds plausible (but it isn't exactly rare in UK) - who confirmed it?

The wild mushrooms online fb page. Says it is rare and its wiki page said something about conservation. Really pretty specimen though... didn't know their caps could go like that.

Xerocomellus always has some red in the stem, and the stems don't get this thick.
