What are bb guns intended use for?

I was told by a Walmart employee that it's for shooting rats. Is this true? The ones I saw at Walmart cost about $25. I wonder what are some good ones if anyone knows? Do these bb guns hurt people too or depending on what type it is?

yeah, of course. some are high power pressure guns but most regular bbs (plastic bbs) are for bb wars I guess and for just screwing around. I guess you can also use it to train yourself in handling guns as they are very similar to the real deal - expect in the lethality I suppose. I wouldn't use it to kill animals though and if you play with your friends wear eye protection.

OK but what is the original intent of bb guns? Why was it made?

Wow...
Bb guns intended use is for shooting bbs at a high rate of speed. Now, what you aim the tip of the barrel at, is completely up to you.

Why yes... It's absolutely the truth. Anyone you know who has or had a bb gun only shoots, or shot rats. Why do you think pet stores sell so many rats? You might think because snakes and shit. NO! Like everyones got that many snakes
Most wal-marts include coupons for rats with bb gun purchases. When you buy the bb gun, make sure and ask that the rat instructions also include the bb gun rat shooting permit...99% do.
Oh and thats good for 1 full year, but make sure you renew as soon as it expires. It sounds silly but in most all states its illegal to own a bb gun without a rat/vermin shooting permit.
You're welcome

A right proper airgun with hunting sabots can be brutal to whatever is downrange, even surpassing a .22lr. Not to be taken lightly or shot at other people

A good air rifle if you shoot rodents (from rat extermination to rabbit poaching) is the Ruger Air Magnum in the .22 version. With lead ammo it stays just under the speed of sound (recommended), with alloy it goes over it, which can make it inaccurate.
If you have a lot of rats to shoot its best to use a compressed air (PCP) air rifle capable of semi auto fire.

We have a pellet gun in the basement of my job for killing rats. I think in the past 3 years we have gotten a half dozen or so. A really easy but time consuming way to take care of a rat problem is leaving a pan of peanut butter in a large space and camp out. Pluck em of as they come feast.
I take care of all the Charlie work.

From what I understand a pellet air gun is a step above a BB gun and can be used for "self defense". Right?

Like pot, BBguns are way more powerful these days than when I was a kid.
My recent purchase broke anasbestos tile on the garage after ricocheting off the ground while zeroing in the scope, ergo-way more dangerous. I left it behind because I never did get the scope zeroed in sufficiently to pot the groundhog burrowing under the fence from a neighbors yard.

I had a .22 pellet gun as a kid but the recent .177 outperformed it. Even in matches the gas powered bb pistol outperformed the hand-cranked air pistol, but it wont stop a meth-head.

As far as I know, the pellet gun is oneshot then reload, whereas the gaspowered BB repeats as fast as you pull the trigger, so for close in work the gaspowered BB is the choice for effective intimidation.

Powerline 880'S work. Old school.
It's weird firing a 'no recoil rifle' where you can actually watch the bb go out like a tracer. You don't get that with real guns. You can recalibrate your aim just based off how you "see" your football fly..
