Adirondack State Park mushroom hunting- found some weird shit * 1
    #23453945 - 07/18/16 07:01 PM (7 years, 7 months ago)

At first I thought it was some kind of mutation. But after finding it at two different locations a few dozen meters apart, i started thinking maybe some kind of parasite or virus? What on earth is going on here!?

I should add that it smelled reallly good

It's a Syzygospora species. They are parasitizing Gymnopus dryophilus, and cause it to form those tumor like growths. Given what your photos show, we need a microscope to figure out exactly which of the species it is.

They are definitely one of the more interesting things you can find.

Happy mushrooming!
