Just got a pound of Ceremonial Cacao beans

I got an oz from a different source awhile back and really like them but I snacked through most of them before trying out larger amounts.
So I just finally got around to ordering a pound for 25$ the other day, all whole beans traditionally harvested and fermented in the Guatemalan rainforest.
Essentially this cacoa is "ceremonial" becouse it is harvested from plants never commercially hybridized for flavor.
As a result they have much more medicinal and psychoactive properties than the more common cacao found in most milk chocolate.
I don't know the specifics but I believe the Aztecs used cacao along with mushrooms in their ceremonies becouse of their strong synergy.
Here is where I got em from for those interested: heartbloodcacao.com

Sadly they are out of the blocks for now but the beans are great to snack on, they just take more effort to blend into a smooth beverage.

I will look for some quotes about it from some other sites I have seen it sold in a minute, just weighed up 4 grams which was only 3 beans
Was going to start with half that but they are so tasty I couldn't help from doubling down
Here is the other site that sells it, they sell small amounts too starting at 4$ for an oz: Eternityinabox.com
They have a funny warning amongst there really long and over the top description:
Quote:
*NOTE OF CAUTION* This Cacao is so extremely potent that dosages should be measured as opposed to estimated. Please get to know this plant before trying a strong dosage, and also please be aware of potential interactions with other plants/pharmaceuticals!! Cacao is said to have an MAOI (Monoamine oxidase inhibitor) effect in strong doses. MAOIs can be extremely dangerous to mix with certain plants (and deadly to combine with certain pharmaceuticals), though they are completely safe to mix with other herbs. Please research yourself to see if any medications you may take are safe to mix with Ceremonial Cacao.

Eternityinabox is where I got mine (among other things).
Extremely good quality. I ordered a pound of the cacao paste so they'd send it to me in a brick.

Yeah I really want to try a brick of the paste too, sadly both sites have been out whenever I have checked
The beans are great for snacking though and I can always blend them if I want something more along those lines.

When I was travelling in Central America I attended a few ceremonies. (Think a bunch of hippie travelers re-creating a traditional ceremony in the woods.) The effects are definitely noticeable, but never knocked my socks off. Kind of a calm-focused energy, I could imagine how it would go well with mushrooms.

Mmmmmmmmmm yea. Was just looking up the Mayan way to make their cacao drink. Was wondering where to find some of these. Someone said they found them in their whole foods market. So I'll check the price if I found some and the site. Thank you so much for posting!!!

i've no experience with African or Central/South American Cacao. i like the coloration
i buy Earth Circle Organics Balinese Cacao (nibs and powder, separately). to my knowledge, it is not fermented, but it is cold-processed and does not undergo any chemical change
how does fermentation change the taste or experience, in your experience?

I don't have enough experience to really say but this stuff has a lot richer and less bitter of a flavor then some cacao nibs and super dark chocolate I have had.
The beans on their own taste around as bitter as some 70~ cacao bars I have had.

Glad I am not the only one interested in this! Do you mean they found some of this type of cacao specifically locally or just some similiar stuff? I imagine other places sell similiar stuff that may not be any different.

Do you know ho much you took? One site says 1oz is enough for "an experience" but just eating a few grams seems to give me mild stimulation.

If I really dig it I may have to look into ordering bulk and re selling some, could certainly be worth it.

Could that actually be possible? How exactly wold you contact a restaurant and be like I got a brick of some good beans?
No but seriously fill me in. If it's legit I'll cop bulk and try to hit up some restaurants.

The one from eternityinabox is very bitter. I couldn't imagine a restaurant paying for any of it as a culinary pleasure.
Their cacao, although bitter, is very potent. I never imagined cacao to be so powerful but you can definitely feel it in your mind and heart chakra (I'm not big on chakras but if I had to say the feeling was located somewhere, those would be the places).
To whoever asked about dosage, I can eat a few grams and get a nice mood lift and the feeling is still noticeable but a "full dose" for me with the cacao would be an ounce which I like to pour boiling water over and drink.

So what exactly would restaurants be looking for? Any recommendations ?
Also why would they buy off a third party when they can buy directly from the source online?
I'm quite enthralled by the whole idea of making money off cocoa beans...

Not really, I think they'd usually get a pound or 2, grind it with a stone, and make the drink for 15-20 of us. At one place where I volunteered it was my job to shell the beans for a few hours each day. I'd just sit there and munch on the whole beans quite a lot. I'm interested to hear what an experience might be like, calm energy and a little euphoria is the most that I'd noticed. (We were all smoking copious amounts of weed too, so that might have clouded things.)

You definitely wouldn't want "cacao" for restaurants but rather "cocoa" (if I remember correctly) which has been hybridized for culinary pleasure.
If you're trying to get something to a restaurant then growing organic fruits/vegetables/mushrooms is your best bet.
That'd have to be one badass restaurant for them to want their chocolate from scratch like that.

It was more of an energetic calm for me if that makes sense..like the body is relaxed but I get a nice empowering feeling that's very comforting.

There are definitely restaurants around here that are into stuff like making their own chocolate, and many raw food places that would probably love the idea of "ceremonial cacao." I would probably just try selling some on Craigslist or something though.

That'd be cool if there are some that would buy something like that. I guess being in Mid-West Texas doesn't really help my point of view on restaurants
