ID help. Is this edible? (Gandoderma Bracket Fungus)
    #23456094 - 07/19/16 12:35 PM (7 years, 6 months ago)

Hello.

Are these an edible species bracket fungus such as Gandoderma lucidum or similar that is suitable for tea or tincture?

I found these two mushrooms growing on decaying and fallen hardwood trees in Northen Ontario, Canada during the mid-summer months this year. Both specimens were fresh, displayed a lacquered red and rubbery appearance, smelt healthy, it had a small strip of yellow at the edge, and showed a uniform white porous spores underneath.

I removed the smaller conk from it's outgrowing stem and I only took the new growth from the larger conk. I cut the conks into strips and dried them thoroughly directly in sunlight until they were solid tough pieces.

I've attached some pictures of the fungus on the trees, the underside, and after harvesting.

I'm in no rush to consume this mushroom and would dispose of it if it isn't edible. If this is indeed an edible fungus I plan on powdering the dried pieces and making a Tincture with grain Alcohol.

Thank you for your assistance.

It isn't edible but you can dry it and make tea from it look up immortality tea. It is a natural anti biotic I keep some around at all times for when i feel like i may be getting sick.
