Toughen up OP!
The GlobalLust MindSupression is working its magic on you.
Things aren't actually that bad, though are being synthesized to appear so for the sake of the Global Lusts marginal election spree.
I mean shit we still have it good personally, we're not being invaded by barbarians, huns or anything. The empire is still strong.

it shouldn't surprise me if true, but are there people that actually do this? i could understand it if you come from a logging interest or are a small engine mechanic, but to collect saws and not use them as intended?

It amazes me just how many people are worried they'll be blown up over here just by getting on public transport. I hear people talk of this worry often. The propaganda machine is in full effect and working well.
I've always had this feeling of how statistically unlikely it would be for me to be killed by a terrorist. So while I was on the phone with my cousin this weekend we tried to figure it out:
Turns out 94 people in the US have been killed by terrorists since 9/11 (Source)
Since that time, going on average deaths per year in the US (2,596,993), roughly 38,954,895 people have died. That means you're 414,413 times more likely to be killed by anything BUT terrorists.
I mean really - you've got a better chance of winning the lottery or being struck by lightning or being hit by a bus whilst crossing the road. Yet I don't hear people fearful of those things. It's ridiculous how much of a frenzy of fear they have people worked up to right now.

What about the stats from Europe?
Aren't you across the pond?
Do you think their fears are unfounded?
i mean they are an unarmed populace amidst the biggest migration crisis of our time.

European stats were harder to find and I didn't wanna dedicate much time to looking into it as was mid conversation.
I mean we had the 7/7 thing in the UK; 56 people were blown up then. But that was 9 years ago and since then nothing. Yet people are still utterly terrified.
I do think their fears are unfounded in reality. But they are well founded in the media (which is just propaganda, after all).

Terrorism is calculated to provoke an irrational reaction, a reaction counter to the rational self interest. Rational self interest wouldn't register terrorism as so much as a blip on the radar, but these attacks are meant to rattle us and divert our rational minds.

I don't honestly know, but I'm a little surprised you don't get the reference. Like 10 years ago, some sad sack British kid used to post in OTD, I forget the names of the several accounts he used. He once started a thread talking about his hobbies, and one of them was "collecting chainsaws". Everyone in there found it hilarious and it became a running inside joke amongst otd'ers for a while. For some reason it popped into my head when I saw CA ask him about hobbies.

It's astoundingly prevalent around cities, and I also hear it coming from country people who are furthest away from any danger.
Your right, people die from other causes. Look at the biggest modern day killer : heart disease. So, would I be wrong to say this, the fear instilled in people by the media creates national increase in stress and anxiety which lead to heart disease. Thus creating long term customers for pharmacy companies, long term employment for doctors, and population decrease due to deaths.
Respect this idea for it is very possible.

There's almost certainly some ulterior motive at play here, I agree with that much.

Do you think just following all of the calamities of the world WITHOUT using mainstream media(its an outdated source anyway) still has a negative effect on your heart?
i don't feel fear or anxiety from war/terrorist vids and can even goes as far as saying i derive pleasure from following world events in real time. i just find it captivating to live vicariously through others from the safety of my home.

Maybe it won't if you enjoy it and can put any fear or doubts aside. But if you found out there was a flu pandemic or some new virus on the run, then I'm confident you would feel afraid. Which in turn lowers your immune system defense due to stress and bingo, you catch it and possibly die. If you maintain a strong outlook and live healthy etc then you are doing yourself a big favour.

in the US there is a "pandemic" every 2-3 years
swine flu, bird flu, zikka
there was mass fear when ebola hit, even though it never actually made it to the USA

Just wait till something like the Spanish flu of 1918 hits...
This pandemic has been described as "the greatest medical holocaust in history" and may have killed more people than the Black Death. It is said that this flu killed more people in 24 weeks than AIDS has killed in 24 years, more in a year than the Black Death killed in a century.
