White pointy mushrooms in the woods in mulch?

They were more white to look at than on the picture

Looks like a white fiber head to me. Inocybe geophylla. Season and situation match as well as the pictures. Highly poisonous.

By "fiber head" you must mean Inocybe.    The gills are far too dark for that, Inocybe has tan spores. 

This is a Psathyrella and like all Psathyrellas, it is edible.

I have seen mature specimens with quite dark gills as evidence with lots of pictures online. Also, white balance was stated to be off in pics.

It's definitely not an Inocybe.  Inocybe gills can get dark, but the spores never have a purplish tint.  This is a dark purple brown spored mushroom.
