Need help making sure they're safe?
    #23455903 - 07/19/16 11:26 AM (7 years, 6 months ago)

Hey! so me and my friend went shroom hunting in a forest (mostly oak trees) and on a log on the ground, it was covered in green moss, we saw some beautiful light tan shrooms. they were lighter around the edges and had a darker tan in the middle, excited, we poured out one of our cups of water we got at a drive through, and then picked the shrooms, putting them in the cup.

Now, when i finally got home 4 hours after that, the shrooms were darker,at least the ones on the bottom of the cup were, the top layer in the cup was still relatively beautiful.

The first picture attached is them before drying, note the lighter colored ones on the left bottom corner of it. in the forest they looked like that but brighter, it got darker cause of the moisture i believe.  the second picture is after drying, they look a lot more like the shrooms i'm used to, smell and taste like it. both me and my friend had about .3 of them to see if we got sick or died, and both of us have survived so far. Can you guys confirm these are psilocybin? we spent 5 hours identifying and we are 90% sure they are golden caps. thanks!

Probably something near Psathyrella candolleana, but if the caps are striate and turn into black goo, also consider Coprinellus micaceus.    Either way they are edible but devoid of flavor and hallucinogenic drugs.

UPDATE: my friend woke up today and said they ended up taking a full gram last night, and said they had color saturation and some stomach discomfort, but she said they were definately psychs. now, this friend is also a chronic liar so idk if i trust her. they werent Psathyrella candolleana, after comparing pictures they did not look like those when growing.

These are definitely in the Psathyrellaceae family - any effects they noticed were placebo.  Nothing in the Psathyrellaceae has psilocybin.  It's also non-toxic so if they want to continue experimenting, that's fine.

In the future they should get a solid ID before eating them, as there are some mushrooms which contain poisons.
