It's funny, because Italians would faint if they knew you were finishing off a plate of fish pasta with parmiggiano.

I just don't think cheese is a good pairing with fish, because cheese is too bold of a flavor, and masks the flavor of seafood. Basically just tastes like you're eating cheese, not really fish or shellfish.

I have never once eaten a crab rangoon and thought, "Hey, the crab in here is delicious," I've always thought, "This just tastes like I'm eating fried cream cheese."

Same with lobster mac and cheese. Like yeah it's good, but, where's the flavor of the lobster? All I'm getting is the texture.

It just goes better with different flavor profiles. I think acidic flavors go better with seafood, things like lime, ponzu, wine reduction, tomato, salsa, etc. A good bouillabaisse or white wine reduction or just eaten raw with lemon and wasabi and soy sauce is the proper way to enjoy seafood.

Well thats why this tread is about wierd foods and not bout "nouvelle cuisine".
About the fainting italians, probably a cook woud do so but some old italian grandma, if not coming from the italian bourgeoisie would faint about very little because the traditional italian kitchen is indeed much about improvisation and concealing deficiency.

Wouldn't all modern Italians be considered from the "bourgeoise?" Bourgeoise means middle-class.

I won't say ALL cheese is bad, I've had some types of cheese that were just fine in a raw sashimi crudo or carpaccio. But it has to be the right kind of cheese, and not too much just a sliver, so it doesn't overpower the flavor of the fish.

Speaking of McDonalds, i made up a simple combo:  hot French fries and a vanilla sunday. Dip your fries into that cold ice cream. Sweet, salty, hot and creamy. mmmmm, sounds so dirty but sooooo goood.

Mm I prefer doing that with Wendy's fries & chocolate frosty. On point. Also not really super weird but called the McStoner by my friends you get two rodeo burgers (burger with cheese BBQ and onion rings) and a chicken burger and make alternating triple burger. One of my favorite combos people think is odd is sweet baby rays BBQ (has to be) with cheddar cheese and Ritz crackers. Mm.

Oh and I dip my chicken nugs first in BBQ then dip the BBQ covered chicken in ranch for the perfect creamy tangy combo. Yum.

Oh but not McDonalds. Their nugs are weird and get dipped in straight honey.

Damn, you must have had some shitty preparations to where you could only taste cheese.  With cheese, I always use sparingly, I am not a huge fan of it, but I do enjoy it with some things, and find small amounts can add nice flavors to food, many people overdo it though.

I have lactose issues, so don't fuck with cheese the long way.

Anyway, last weird combo I made for myself was an apple with sriracha.

While I would agree, acidic flavors definitely pair very well with seafood I wouldn't say that cheese can't be amazing, when used correctly. A nice encrusted fish with parmasean mm. Salmon or cod parmasean... Oh and I love crab ragoons from this local Chinese place omg so good.

Next time try a pinch of salt in there. Apparently it tricks your mind to thinking it's sweet.

I like to put doritos and pickles on my meatball subs and I put ketchup on thangs like eggs and mac. I dont really put stuff together weird but I do eat weird stuff together on a plate sometimes.

Not really, I've even had a lobster mac and cheese at Butcher & Singer, which is a steakhouse that is priced between $50 to $90 for a steak. When you put lobster in a dish that cheesy, of course it's going to taste just like cheese. I mean, lobster and seafood itself already has a mild taste.

I've had grated cheese in some sashimi crudo dishes that were quite good... but the cheese portion was less than 1/20th of the portion of fish. So the cheese complimented it, without overpowering the flavor of the scallops.

I once made a Crystal G.

It calls for a dumb cunt and a broken heart. Fried in my tears. Naturally.

Right now I'm cooking some chicken and rice soup with broccoli and carrots. Gonna pour it over a baked potatoe with cheese in a bowl. Getonmylevel.

Completely sober. I was eating pb sandwiches everyday, and was getting tired of it. Saw Doritos in the vending machine at work, and the rest is history.

That would work too. It's all about the contrast in flavor & how they compliment each other. That, and sandwiches that crunch > sandwiches that don't crunch.
