I can trace my family name back 11 generations to Lancashire England 1600s. My 5th great grandfather fought in the revolutionary war. My 4th great grandfather helped establish mormonism with joseph smith in missouri/illinois, then pioneered with brigham young to salt lake city. Many of the cities in northern utah were founded by my family.
I guess thats about it

All I really know is that my ancestors came to America from Wales because they were criminals. Changed our last name when they came too. Dunno when or what exactly they did, it's only a faint memory, I know the context I was told it in, it was something pretty bad
Supposedly I'm related to Bonnie and Clyde somehow.. Dunno how, my brother is the one that found out. I can't remember which we're supposed to be related to or how. I kinda just chalked it up to being bullshit and didn't pay much attention when he was explaining it but he seemed to be pretty convinced that it was legit.
My family is a very loose knit family and that goes back generations so there's not really an emphasis on keeping up with our roots, but I've always wondered about where I actually come from.

No famous relatives I know of, long history of criminality and shiftiness on my Australian side, and a long history of learn-edness, writing and intellectual type pursuits on the Irish side, despite being working class
my great grandfather fought under Lawrence of Arabia though, raiding railways and killing train guards, dad's got a silver watch supposedly taken off of a dead Turk, we looked it up and it was a specific model of pocket watch issued to Turk train guards, so his story is at least partly true ha (never trust aussies)

I thought the same. I became interested a few days ago and started digging around. Turns out its pretty well documented. I was surprised. My 5th great grandfather bought several hundred acres of land in kentucky around late 1700s, and I discovered its still owned by ancestors of the family. Theres even a family cemetery. Makes me wanna go visit. Find my animal spirit.

My last name comes from a former king of France, I'm related to Ralph Waldo Emerson.
I feel like my mom and dad are way cooler then those losers. My dad is a Vietnam era Vet that tested so high on his aptitude test and excelled so well they offered him any job he wanted and he picked air traffic controller in Germany. One out of very few stationed there during the Vietnam war because most people don't realize we were having a battle of technologies still from the Cold War. He said he'd control hundreds of fighter jets at a time. After that he was L.A.P.D, after that he was head of security for Stephen Speilberg,John Williams and Kathleen Kennedy.Actually through that Hillary Clinton held me as a baby while she was talking to Stephen Speilberg,I don't care for that shit at all now. Used to be a fun fact. He was owner of a Fortune 500 hundred company. His partner embezzled and stole all his money. He started doing top secret work and was exposed to lethal chemicals because of the lack of government safety suits. (that was filed in court so I know I can say that). He never saw a dime and he's still terminally ill.
My mom traveled the world was all the famous people you can think of and for 3 years straight with Jerry Lee Lewis She worked in the stunt industry and has a list of all the people she's worked with. Every single one of them is very famous. Some of the more Noteable ones would be Richard Dreyfus,Tony Blair,Gene Simmons,Hugh Hefner(not a playboy bunny but had an honorary place there) Lou ferigno,Bob Hope at one time. There's over 100 just as famous but I don't have the rest right now. She also dated robin from the original batman and robin. After that she had cancer twice and worked armed security.
Since a year or two after my birth neither of them has seen celebrities but they were and are amazing parents now. Still though, I doubt I'll have that star studded successful life like that. I think I'll do well but that's a tough order to fill.

There's a story, it goes back a few hundred years.
Not something I want to leave as public record on here though.
I've been thinking, my family history is very detailed and at this stage my ethnicity is divided in 3. If I have kids with a woman who isn't part of one of those ethnicities, those kids will essentially be too mixed up to be able to really relate to anything. 3 is already pushing things big time. They won't be anything...
Now I have to consider how important that is to me, hundreds of years of history in a coherent line. Its certainly not something I would want to miss out on, but its also not something I consider at all when meeting women. Guess if I ever have any kids, they're likely fucked.

OP, my lineage is surprisingly similar to yours. I have an aunt who is majorly into genealogy, and she's traced our English side back to the 13th century, in some podunk little British hamlet. She's worked on our German side, but due to difficulties in understanding records, can't get further back than the early 1800s.
I was once taking a history course, and in the text book I found a person of minor importance who I share a last name with, spelled the same (my last name, while not exactly super rare, is far from common, especially the spelling we use). I asked my mom about it, and she knew of the guy; he was my first "American" relative, arriving here with a supplement ship to the Mayflower in 1623. From then on, I've had relatives in the American Revolutionary War (my sister wants to join the Daughters of the American Revolution, because she's a dork), the American Civil War, and pretty much every war since. I found out that we had at least one slave owner in my family. Several war heroes, including some kind of distant marital connection to Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. I have a relative who actively participated in Chicago's Haymarket Riots (there's a neat anecdotal story attached to that one). Just a bunch of fascinating men & women.
A couple years back my mother and aunt (the one who digs all this up) went over to England and stayed with family members that we're related to from at least 800 years ago. Learning this shit is cool.

Two of my ancestors were a white sugar cane plantation owners daughter and a black slave in Coronie, the Surinam. He got her pregnant, her dad was all about that and rushed her back to Frisia, Holland pregnant where she gave birth to a mixed son whom she raised with love but to shame of the family - that boy carried the bloodline from them to me across several generations.
So thats how the black got in me, on my mother's side.
My dad is a super european, I know from DNA testing, 10,000 years ago during the ice age his ancestors lived in whats now called Doggerland, the bottom of the North Sea (then dry cause of the glaciers) where they hunted friggin mammoths in the forests, When the water returned they colonized England, Scotland, Ireland, parts of Scandinavia, Holland, Belgium, Germany and Northern France.

I just recently found out that I've got a bit of European ancestry (my family is Nigerian).
About a month ago, my mother solemnly shared a story with me about my great, great grandmother. She was sold into slavery to the Caribbean and subsequently raped. She eventally made it back to Africa (was among the lucky few that were able to do so), but instead of being sent to Nigeria, she was sent to Sierra Leone. Upon her arrival, officials had asked her if she remembered her area of origin. Fortunately, she did, and was kindly sent back home (Enugu State, Nigeria).
I don't yet know what part of Europe those genes are from because I'm still saving up money to take a DNA test, but it certainly explains my light skin and the curl pattern of my hair.

It aligns with the facts. Stories in the family as well as civil records (birth, wedding, death).

My grandfather wrote a book on the our lineage tracing all the way back to the Mayflower and registered us in the Mayflower Society. I think that just means I'm as white as a white boy can be.
