How nasty is your lab?

We let for bottles of agar get too hot, so I poured em out into a tray and let it sit for a few days. Wow! I'm going to build another hood to leave running 24/7 from now on. I'll post a picture in a bit. How about you guys? Ever leave an open plate out just to see? Pic.

I try to sweep daily and mop weekly. And if I drop some grain, I pick it up right away. Throw out trash daily

Im with drake. Your not making a clean room, you really only need the clean table and keep everything in the flow.

I concur. You should still keep the area around clean though. I know how nasty some people are. Especially with food and penicillium.

This is something I've been wondering about also. Thinking about using a SAB instead of a flow hood, for now, because I'm concerned about the flow hood sucking contams from the room. I'm slowly working on finishing an area for cultivation but as it is now I'm working on an old wide plank wood floor with god knows what in the cracks and exposed framing inside.
Not to hijack the thread but any thoughts on which to use until the room is finished?

My room is full of mold. I have a past history of leaving food around my room and just being a lazy nasty fucker in general. Luckily mushroom cultivation has forced me to get a grip on myself and clean up. With that being said, I didn't do a crazy good job of cleaning my room. Spraying some Lysol was the closest thing I did to disinfecting the room. I work inside of my closet which I've cleaned even less than my bedroom so I'm sure there's plenty of mold and contams from this house that was built in like 1846 or some shit. This is an old house with a LOT of nasty shit flying around.
With that being said, I work inside of a SAB (and it's not even a badass SAB, it's just some small plastic tub that I used a 4in coffee container to burn arm holes through).
I turn off all fans and shut my doors/windows, lay down a damp towel at the bottom of the SAB, wipe down the rest of the SAB with 70% iso, spray the SAB with soapy water. As for myself, I shower (sometimes), put on a clean cotton long sleeved t-shirt, put latex gloves on and tape the base of the gloves to the sleeves of my shirt, wipe my gloves with alcohol and spray my sleeves with alcohol.
With that being said, I have over a 95% success rate. You could be in a room full of open trich jars, and as long as your sterile procedure is how it should be you'll do just fine with a SAB.
Trust me, if I can do it, anyone can.

Another note, while you can get away with a dirty lab i do plan on building a clean room of sorts using poly walls. This should allow for more leeway with handling sterile bags that arent sealed.

Dude.... The last batch I did my house was literally a giant mound of spore producing, smelly, human rights violations. I'm going to build my flowhood this weekend so needless to say it was all done in an SAB- had 2 jars and 2 bags (you have no idea how much of a bitch bags were in the SAB) contam but honestly looked like endospores (new to having bags in my PC so times had to be adjusted) - but that was out of 40 jars and 12 bags so I still am coming out alright. I've been curious to grow out a couple agar plates that I just open in plain air to see what happens.
I've since cleaned quite a bit but have been putting off work waiting to get my flowhood built. I got the HEPA and blower combo Gr0wer suggested and SpeakSoftly has a shop and is going to help me build it. Was supposed to already happen but I had unexpected expenses and couldn't afford the wood.
