Time to get this thread bumpin again.
Just posting how my salvia plants are doing. This is my 3rd year growing this magical plant, and every summer, about mid point my girls stop loving life as much as they did in the winter (I live in a HOT tropical climate btw).
Anyways, just showin em off

And then this one not looking so good. I have it in a soil mix that my trichocereus go in.. Sooo not exactly ideal. Just an experiment though

Now POST YOUR SALVIA... GO!

Looking good shroomizzy. My clones are trucking along now. It's been almost two weeks I should have some roots soon.

My light fell on my mother a few days ago and she got three leaves scortched so she looks rough right now.

Sally looks happy. Definitely the happiest I have got one in the last couple years. Probably should repot her.

Oh yeah that's a good looking plant. What kind of light are you giving her?

I agree shroomizzy, I'm curious as too what kind of light she's getting, from what source, what spectrums etc. I love growing bushy plants!

More life. Although that first one is iffy at best. I unpotted it and the cutting is like 4 to 5 inches long and roots coming all up off of it. Hopefully it will throw out some leaves.

Just a 6500k CFL. Soil has made all the difference for me. I think I need more light now though because the bottom leaves don't get much anymore.

How many Watts bro? I'm using a 6500k floro but it's only 24watts.

I think its around there. Its one of things where it "performs like a 60 watt bulb", whatever the hell that means, but its actually around 30 or something like that. I try and keep it .5 to 1 foot away from the top leaves. Soil is key, far more important than I would have expected...
I thought that as long as you have halfway decent soil it wouldn't much matter. Wrong. At least as far as I have noticed with sally. Other plants may very, I know little about plants, far more about fungi.
I just hope she continues to do well. Sometimes salvia just tries and die on you. Very odd.

Hopefully the fish emulsion and kelp plant will make it bust out new growth. Ill check tomorrow.

I agree with all the things. I'm certain I can attribute many a loss of these plants due to soil choice alone. It's been 3 years and I still haven't nailed down a certain soil mix yet. I'm always trying new ones.

I'm basically using miracle grow organic moisture control soil with a hefty amount of perlite, make 60-40 soil/perlite and my plant seems to do okay in it. It's the only soil I could find at Walmart that wasn't pre loaded with fertilizers.
I try to keep my light about 1inch away from my tops but Sally grows so fast that I've burnt like 4 leaves already...I'm gonna up the wattage and try to get more distance, even though with CFL I know the light intensity is best a few inches away and drops dramatically after that.
@ferrel, I have hope buddy, they'll throw you some leaves as long as those stems stay green and have roots!

Thanks man. The leaves do seem to have grown a bit since the feeding. My soil is just coco coir and perlite and leaves from my tamarind tree. I keep my soil under it so the leaves add organic matter.

Nice nice, I'm not too familiar with coco, always wanted to get into soiless mediums but been too afraid of pH.
I just checked my clones and I have roots on one! Tons of roots. The other has rot at the lowest internode where I cut it so I'm gonna cut off the rot I guess when I take the other one out and plant it.
I'm excited.

Oh haha, well I use a bubble cloner I made out of a ice cream jug. The photo above is the clones inside the bag for humidity.
This is my first time using a bubble cloner so I guess I have been using a soiless medium this past two weeks lol.

I've always just put them in spring water and let them sit. Only time the clones have failed to root is due to neglect essentially. I don't think rooting hormone or fancy bubbler systems are necessary at all. At least IME. and 60/40 miracle grow to perlite would be far too much perlite for my plants. I have made that mistake before. Once again just IME, YMMV. I am far from an expert in these matters.
