Gymnopilus hunting !!

I went today on a hunt in the forest wanting to find some gyms because the forest i went to looks very similar to the ones were gyms were found from several sources. But after 7h of searching i found no gyms.. i know it sometimes wont happen but im afraid that the lack of info about this genus makes things worst. I looked at every page on the web talking about gyms and they seem very common. I found sooo many mushrooms in the forest (i will post my find tomorrow) but no gyms. I wanted to know if anyone got any tips for finding them. As i read they seem to find them near roads or not far from them but i went deep inside the forest and looked especially on fallen trees and dead woods and stumps. Some say they found them on decaying wood burried in soil so they would appear like they are groing from the ground? Also i found a milk cap that i thought was a gym :/ and also a small bluing bolete that i was sure was a gym(too small to see the pores instead of gills i didnt want to pick it) but after seeing the texture and instant bluing of the cal i knew it wasnt... Do those 2 mushrooms grow normally in the same season than gyms ? I got really desperate after 7h of searching and would like to know if i have a chance of finding gyms. Where should i look the most ? Here are the small bolete and the milk cap:
Im searching in oak forest, lots of dead wood fallen trees and stumps, also a lot of moss. Thanks for help

In my area both of those species grow just around the times that Gyms grow, sometimes a bit earlier. Both of those species can also grow in similar areas to Gyms. I have found Gyms in a mixed hardwood forest, but with mostly maple, growing on decaying wood deep in the forest.

What's your location? They may not be fruiting in your area yet.

It rained heavily 2 days ago but the weather is going to be sunny dor a long time but at night it almost always get to 90%humidity is it enought for new gyms to pop out?

I did answer this already, but a quick web search can also answer this question.
I'm assuming that you're looking specifically for Gymnopilus junonius. There are over 200 species of Gymnopilus. Anyway, Gymnopilus junonius is saprobic so it grows on dead and decaying wood. Depending on your area it will grow on hardwoods (around me it seems to like maple) or on conifers. They often like moist lowland areas, but I have found some on the side of standing dead about 6' off the ground. They almost always grow in clusters and should be fairly easy to see if you're in the right area.
My best luck is just above the floodplain outside of a swampy area in a mixed hardwood forest.
You can also search youtube for gymopilus hunting and see some videos of people finding them and what kind of forests they found them in.
Hunting Gyms are like hunting any other wild mushroom in that there's lots of factors that determine when they will be out. For example, last year I found black trumpets on July 7th. This year they are not up yet because it's been very dry.
Keep looking. When you find them pay close to attention to where you found them. What type of trees are around, what type of other foliage, how moist is the soil, how does that section of forest smell, does it seem more or less humid in that particular area. Once you get familiar with these things you'll be able to walk into any forest have a pretty good idea of what species you'll find there.
I hope that helps. Good luck!

That's a huge help to me! The species links are decent but doesn't compare to personal advice you get here. I know this wasn't my post but helped me none the less. I'm really anxious to find my first gyms
