I've noticed that my oats are fine without the shake, but I still do it out of habit. It's just something I thought everyone did so I just go with it. With LI, I always shake to distribute the inoculant. I shake everything after to distribute. Can't imagine not shaking LI and just letting it pool up. That's the point of LI, I thought, a leap ahead in the inoculation chain and distribution points.

I don't use that much. 1ml even is enough. Squirt down the side of jar, let colonize and then shake. Leaving it in a mass in one spot at first can help it have vigor as well, the myc work as a team linking nutrients to form a bigger mass. If you shake a LI right away it is going to need more time to recover for that reason, there will be less and smaller other colonies to link with nearby. After the nutes from the grain have already been absorbed a little and some colonization has taken place, at this point shaking will give a huge boost to 100%. This process should only take a few days.

We use grains for many reasons, one of the big ones is because they break up easily after being colonized, this is where you get your inoculation points.

Adding too much moisture to grains is asking for trouble IME. Like I said, all of this is just my own words and experience. These are only my opinions, just giving you some insight from my point of view. I understand your logic as well, it also makes sense.

I'm definitely going to try and splitting up my next batch of LI between shaken after and not shaken after. When I've done a wedge of mycelium, shake, and let sit, it's still taken longer than LI, shake, 30% and shake again though.

So many variables go into this stuff it's hard to pinpoint everything. The end result is mushrooms though so a success! Thanks for your insight, Chief. I always enjoy hearing your opinion!
