Would you go skydiving by yourself? * 1
    #23452639 - 07/18/16 11:39 AM (7 years, 6 months ago)

meaning without friends or anyone you know.

All my friends always stall or don't have the money and it gets pushed off to the following year, year after year. I have absolutely nothing to do this saturday and they have openings so I'm tempted to just say fuck it and go solo. I wanted someone to go with because I'm nervous as all hell and think it would be easier with someone I know going too but it's basically now or never lol

Just do it. Lots of things are still fun doing it by yourself. Once you're at it you're not really doing it with them anyway.

I've done it 3 times, but each time I was with my mom and various people.

It's definitely worth doing.... And if you have to do it alone to get it done, so be it.

Do it, man.

What's it like? Like what benefits do you receive from it? I would imagine it's its own high of some sort. A crazy "free" feeling that releases shitloads of chemicals in the brain.

How to get started in bulk:
Presto 23-Quart Pressure Cooker
BOD's Simple as FUCK Still Air Box
PastyWhyte's Easy Agar Tek
Munchauzen's Cultivation Video Series
How EvilMushroom666 Prepares His Grains (I use jars with Synthetic Filter Discs)
What is G2G? (Grain-to-Grain)
Damion5050's Coir Tek (I use 5.5 - 6 quarts of water instead of 4. Also ignore step 13 and ignore the monotub completely. The only purpose of this tek is to show you how to make a simple substrate. I also add gypsum to it but not necessary)
Spitball's Monotub Tek (A liner isn't necessary but is useful)
Use 6500k lights throughout the whole process. When you wake up, turn the light on. When you go to sleep turn the light off. It's as simple as that.

Can't really explain it well.... It's pretty much what you'd figure it to be, only more intense.

This guy on "jackass" jumped out of a plane without a parachute and no clothes or something,  and then another guy WITH a parachute flew down to grab ahold of the unparachuted guy. That must have been a pretty crazy experience to sky dive naked.

My issue with skydiving has always been having someone strapped to my back, going through hours of training, or jumping and immediately having the chute open.  All of that sounds ridiculously boring and lame.    I would have to jump somewhere where there aren't strict rules.  I dig the adrenaline of the free fall, the peacefulness of the whole experience, and the view.  I feel like a 30 minute training would suffice for me.  The added risk would be worth avoiding the rules.  how hard can it be?  Which cord to pull, what position to be in.  What the backup procedure is.  What altitude to deploy the chute.  How to steer the parachute and land.  How long can that really take?

As far as people with me, I would be happy if my wife came to cheer me on.  She doesn't have to jump too.

It was Travis Pastrana, from Nitro Circus, among other things.

I only had to sit thru one 10 minute video each time.

No clue what else you're talking about.

Did that years ago. I had a crazy work schedule and it was impossible to coordinate with my friends to I said fuck it I'm going by myself.

Made sure I was completely sober my first time to get the full effect.

I went last since I was the only solo person so I ended up in the last plane with all of the instructors. Had a blast and signed up for my second jump that same day.

Its like going to a concert by yourself, I love having my friends around but sometimes I just want to get into an experience without any distractions.

DO IT!!!!!!!!!

I thought you meant by myself as in 'not in tandem'.

I've done three now (in tandem) and on the last the guy said to me 'mate, why don't you get your licence to jump solo? It's only £10 per jump once you've got your licence and your gear'

That got me thinking..

But looking into it, it's about £5000 for licence and £6000 for gear. Too steep for me, but imagine rocking up to an airfield with a tent, and doing 20 jumps over the course of the weekend... you know damn well about half of those would be done tripping too.

This is gonna be fucking amazing by the way man. I reckon it's hard not be be a little nervous on the first one (should've seen the look on one guys face on my first..), but by the time you get to the 2nd, and you know what's coming... man, then the fun really begins.

I did it with my buddy the first time. I don't think it made it any better because it was tandem.

If you have gear and are jumping solo then it would be better with a bunch of buddies.

I was gifted a suprise jump by my partner, It was great but I was stoned of my rocker luckily it was tandem.
My only gripe was that I felt too safe the bloke was excellent and I knew I'd be ok plus getting out of the shit box plane was a relief.
A solo jump imo would be the ultimate rush.

So....I've always had one fear about sky diving...and it's probably going to sound really stupid.

But I remember hearing a few times during my lifetime that if you were to, for example, fall off of a cliff, that your heart would explode and kill you before you actually reached the bottom.

I feel dumber as I keep typing this.

So is there a chance your heart would explode before you pull your parachute?

I don't think so, no..

They say you're more likely to die on the ride there than from an accident skydiving... Not sure if that's true or not.

A helmet didn't protect my heart in a relationship and it's not going to protect it now :mob:

nah, but I wasn't too worried about it. It's the only thing I've thought negative about sky diving though
I'd definitely try it if I got the chance.

I'm excitedly nervous about it if that makes sense  can't wait but I know I'm going to be shitting myself once I get there.

I paid extra for a video and pictures too, guy jumps out of the plane separately but right before you and records all of it on a helmet cam, assuming I don't look like a massive retard in the part of the video that's before and after the jump I'll post it, or I'll just edit that part out lol

They'll usually give you a bunch of still pics on the disc, so you can share pics of it pretty easily.

I think I got a still pic every 3 or 5 seconds, so quite a bit.

You don't have to go digging around if you just tell me what your last words were :awehigh:

--------------------
How to get started in bulk:

It was pretty cringey, but they were

"reminding you to help control the pet population, have your pets spayed or neutered....... (super awkward pause)  Bob Barker style"

(in case you're too young, it's what Bob said at the end of every The Price is Right episode)

:lolsy: It's a really good thing you didn't die that day. I could just imagine that being played at your funeral or being engraved on your gravestone.

Two words: N. O.

Not that that should discourage you from going for it, of course. I just wouldn't because I'm a wuss

lolololol that's kind of epic though

I've already been trying to think of something off the wall to say right before the jump like "if I die, tell my mom I said hello" or something equally ridiculous, whatever I say I have no doubt I'll regret it but at least whatever it is will make for a funny story

I jumped out in East Troy Wisconsin in the middle of fall when all the colors of the leaves were changing. It was like plunging yourself into a tye-dye paradise!

The plane ride up was just was exciting. The inside of the plane was gutted except for two long benches that ran parallel with the fuselage. They were also blasting Metallica during the entire flight up.

Have fun dude you will LOVE it!!!:awedance:

Cool man. I'll definitely take your space in line!!!!

Im pretty damn tall and super skinny fyi and when I went the dude that was tandem to me was short and fat. The landing was pretty much like trying to land on two old toothpicks with a midget backpack on that weighed like a boulder. I almost turned into a pancake.....and then i didn't it again. :awedance:

It was amazing in every way, at midnight the night before a friend of mine changed his mind and decided to go too. The tandem jumper who was strapped in with me was the coolest/nicest guy ever and made it really chill and a lot easier to go through with one I was actually there.

shLong's description of it was perfect too, its exactly what you'd expect but way more intense

Yeah the second they opened the door it felt like winter outside, and the second the parachute opened it felt like my ears exploded and kept popping lol

Id definitely recommend to anyone considering it, its a very unique experience, there's nothing quite like jumping out of a plane

I normally tell people to wear ear plugs, but I forgot to tell you. My bad, bro.

That also helps with the pressure changes.

My gf's ears were kinda fucked up for like a week or two afterwards from the pressure changes.

S'all good man,  ill know for next time, a friend of mine saw the video of us doing it and now he's hellbent on trying it himself so ill probably be going one more time in a few weeks with him, definitely going to be bringing earplugs for that one

My ears were relatively fine within an hour or two after, my friend was complaining the entire day

I was too nervous to say anything cool before the jump too, so the video is me just being boring and predictable with everything i said and noticeably distracted

Skydiving by myself scares me I've never went skydiving before so for my first time I most DEF would want someone to go down with me and pull the string. Maybe if I went a few times with a trainer and knew the routine but the thought of the parachute malfunctioning scares me.

Down the street from my mothers house they have this spot where you pay $200 and some buck and they take you up with someone and skydive right there not need for an appointment or anything to go. Someday I hope to go it would be cool to be able to say I jumped out of an airplane before.

I don't know what it's like everywhere but here you have to do one or two tandem jumps first regardless if you have the training or not. $200 is pretty cheap, I'd jump on that.

how many times might vary by state but i think every state its mandatory for someone who knows what theyre doing to be strapped to you X amount of times before you can even apply for a license to jump by yourself.

Its scary but id definitely do it if youre considering or want to, you'll have a permagrin for atleast a few days after

They gave me the option to pull the chute but specified not to anytime before 5000 feet, i was like "nah we'll probably die somehow if its left up to me so you can pull it"

It was 195 for me and 120 for the video, 205 if you just show up with booking it first

I have a great aunt that died in Texas from the parachute not opening I dont think I want to mess with it unless I know exactly how its supposed to be packed and I do it myself.
