Grow Log - Second Monotub

Hi I have just started my second monotub grow so I thought I would make a post about it and update it as I go.
Variety: B+ I am doing a WBS Tek with Coir as a substrate for my monotub
Day 1
My seeds were mostly all exploded which is apparently not a good thing I probably simmered them too long.
Day 11
All 5 jars are nearly 100% colonized and no signs of contamination. 1 jar was fully colonized at day 8 which seems insanely fast to me.
Day 22
Started the monotub. Everything seemed fine it just smelled like mushrooms.
Day 26
Seems to be colonizing the monotub pretty fast. I split the jars and substrate between two smaller monotubs not sure if this will be beneficial or not but we will see. The 2nd monotub behind this one is almost 100% colonized. No signs of contamination so far. I probably should have flattened the substrate more but oh well shouldn't affect it too much I hope.
Day Something
A few big ones ready to be picked and a bunch of smaller ones just about there they seem shorter than usual maybe not enough air flow.

Looks very wet in those jars, and the mycelium has a bit of a chunky look to it, which indicates that some bacteria is present. How did you go about inoculating the jars and did you use a SAB?

No I didn't use a SAB but I inoculated them in a very sterile environment. I inoculated the jars using the typical method. If bacteria is present shouldn't it have slowed the growth of the mycelium? How can I know for sure if it is contaminated and what are my options if it is bacteria?

Honestly, do not take this noobs word for what i am saying, for me tho... i found when mycelium sweats, it means its giving off a anti bacterial defense, and well... when my knots starting coming it stoped sweating and started to oxidize blue ( i think that is when u suppose to start tryin to case and then fruit) and also it stopped producing the anti bacterial sweat after i shook it and it oxidized like now its not doing anything but re growing light fuzz mycelium,( i think it killed all the bacteria) lol i think this isnt a big deal to most of u but idk, did this within 2 jars, which are my only jars so ya corrrect me if i am wrong lol, P.S i would be shaking those jars every 2-3 days lol, seems like they could use it, but alway search this shet up yuourself, i mean i have found this promising so far for myself . but will see...

I am just going to continue on, since they are all fully colonized now. If the jars smell bad when I open them I will toss them but if they just smell like mushies I will keep them because like toucan sam says follow your nose.

The wetness is just condensation the seeds were probably pretty wet which can cause contams but the one jar looks like it has metabolites which isn't good if you see metabolites in the jar it's bad ... but if they smell OK you should be fine smell the filter usually you could smell it through that

I didn't mean to respond with a downer man if I did I apologize I know bird seed is cheap but I hated prepping it have you ever tried whole oats ?? I get them at my local feed store 50 lbs for 18$ after taxes and they are pretty easy to prep with rarely any exploded grains besides the ones out of the hull

The only problem with bird seed in my experience is having the little bits of cracked corn (which are present in almost every brand) releasing starches to the surrounding grains as it is being simmered to hydrate the grains to optimal moisture capacity. Still haven't tried the no simmer method. I feel a 24 hour soak followed by a 90 mjnute cycle will still result in very hard grains. Anybody that has experience without simmering WBS, let me know how your grow went.

Thanks for the replies. Noob47 It does look like there are metabolites in s couple of the jars but zero smell out of the top of them. I have not tried oats but I will look into it if you think they are easier than WBS. Is there a particular tek you like to use? Mycologist217 thanks that is very uplifting I believe they will do fine since they colonized so fast

This is one I used, https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21029762 after the first or second run its fairly simple and you just know what to look for on your own there are others just look up whole oats prep ... if you have metabolites it doesn't mean you won't be able to grow off the grain but it could go bad is say only two jars are good get a small 6qt tub or two and make them in there I've got half ounce so far from this one and the one before that I had 3 quads is there a reason you don't do agar??

I haven't really looked into Agar yet it seems daunting and easy to fuck up. I guess I go this route because there is less steps so less things to go wrong.

Actually it's alot easier than you think and you can stretch a single syringe out to as many grows as you want as long as you have at very least a still air box one or two drops and you can turn that into a shit ton of plates look up pastywhytes easy agar tek but with agar you are guaranteed to have clean spawn

I think I might try whole oats next time but not sure where to find them, I will have to look around my city. I looked into the agar it seems interesting and I will probably do it sometime down the future but I am fine with my spore syringes at the moment.

Find a feed store for the oats if you can wbs is pretty good too I'm not knocking them I just hate soaking them over night and all that oats can be in the PC within an hour

How long can Agar last before you inoculate it? How long after inoculation? What is the best method of storing Agar?
