Need some advice.

22. In college 2nd year. Dont know what the fuck i wanna do. Wasting money not holding interest in classes. On academic probation cos I flunked some gen Ed's last semester.
I wanna drop out. I have a business opportunity to move to Atlanta and take a high risk shot at being this guy's partner in the jewelry and art industry. We are both wireweaving and make handmade jewelry but he has a $20,000 mineral collection and offered me his hand in business. Wants me to meet him in Atlanta at the end of the month.
I want to do this. I want to take off and pursue my dreams in art and traveling. But my family. They are going to be disappointed. My whole life ive lived in the expectations and confines of what they think is best. They want me to go to college and get a degree in the medical industry or something lucrative whIle my love and passion lies in art. What the fuck do i do? I'm supposed to re enroll this week
But I don't fucking want to. I rather travel and pursue my dream in the art and jewelry business.

Yeah, drop out man. If you're going to continue failing because of lack in interest, you're just blowing yours and other people's money staying in. You have a long life ahead of you, no need to rush through college for the most part. Wait until you get your focus in order.

Go to an art shop, buy some shit and start doing what you wanna do
Shops like Michaels or Hobby Lobby or Jo-ann Fabrics alllways have coupons for like 30-50 percent off anything every day, look online for them on their websites and just whip em out on yer fone at checkout.
also, if you shop at Michaels you get extra discount coupons with your receipts. They have an expiration date, but they don't ask questions if you cut the dates off

Yo there's not much opportunity in the jewlry and art business. Its not easy selling large ammounts of jewlry. I think its such a bad idea as there are already huge multi million dollar companies that you just cannot compete with.
If you do this, youre gonna be peddeling jewlrey like a hippy at a feativle and youre not going to make a living. That doesn't sound like a good idea. That jewlry doesn't look worthwhile either.
A mineral collection is not worth anything.
Also that copper type jewlry is already being mass produced in China and stuff. It's not that attractive. We all know so many people who are "making jewelry now". It's a bad idea man. Finish school. Don't dishonor your famiry!!!!!

Those are some valid points as well.
Perhaps the reason you're unhappy is because of what you're going to college for? Is there any chance you can change your major towards a career you'd find tolerable?

Or you could go to an actual jewelry school and take gia courses. I'm sure your parents would support that. Wirewrapping is wirewrapping and every road hippie does it.
I also have a high end American mined pegmatite mineral collection worth well over 20k. It doesn't make me any money, but lures people into my booth where they look at everything rather than glancing as they walk by.

Worth 20k but makes you no money????

I sell other stuff. A collection is a collection and only other collectors buy or trade within collections. I mine and sell literal tons of rough material, slabs, polished pieces, cabs, spheres, and jewelry.

OP, you should definitely drop out. It doesn't sound like you have the desire or drive to finish college, so there's no point in wasting additional money.
You're 22, so give the jewelry a shot I guess, but I'd seriously consider a back up plan. Wire wrapping is everywhere.

Selling jewlry on street corners is a joke. Then pic you posted looks like you stuck McDonald's treasure gems into the copper wire ball. Sorry man but it's true.
Theres always gonna be some higher level hippy around your street corner selling better shit than you.
Your feet will be dirty and itchy all the time.
Don't listen to these fuckers egging you to go homeless and "follow your dreams", it's a load of bs.
Instead, persue the real money so you can really do what you want when you have wealth.

I've seen enough of that shit happen to my unfortunate friends, that i think it's better that these art kids be advised to not go that route.

follow your dreams.. first you have to make sure that the opportunity ir for real. if you don´t like what you study maybe check for another carreer. be carefull because the business that you talking about may end some day or soon... in fact... you can be a self taught artist and succeed because your doing what you love.
make sure that your work is liked by your target audience

Some people ARE made for art and can succeed in that.
Take Picasso for example, he made it big with his art, he got wealthy. But the difference between him and the million others who didn't make it, is he had the talent from birth. He was destined for it and is a 1 in a million example.

Thing about OP is, he posted a pic of his work and I'm not one to falsely support and compliment. I can tell with high certainty that, that piece of jewlry is generic and is one OF millions just like it. Theres nothing unique about it and the Chinese are millions of miles ahead of him with that.

Nah man, being rich and siccessful is always better than being poor and unsuccessful.
What are you gonna do if you or your child or loved one gets sick and you can't pay medical bills or help them cause you wasted your life spinning worthless jewlrey?
Then you'll really hate yourself cause youll remember how you were once ACTUALLY IN the position to go to college and finish it and get a real paying career going.
Don't fuck around OP, you and your business partner need to wake up. The jewlry idea is a bust.

U gotta find the balance. Its really hard for us to make that descision for you, you just need to really think about what you desire and weigh the pros and cons of every scenario, in the end all works out as its supposed to with many lessons during the way but for sure having enough money to support oneself is key in the long run
Good luck, from someone who is bound to face similar dilemas

I went to college, make good money and do everything listed and I do it really comfortably too.
How much money have you made off your jewelery so far? How much do you make a month selling jewelry?
Traveling and begging people to buy your jewelry so you can get some hotdogs or whatever sounds horrible. What happens when you get sick and have no insurance or money to pay for treatment? Or your friend bails out on you?
I'm going to suggest staying in college, but get out of the medical field if you aren't interested in it. Make and sell your art on your free time. Everyone I know that went to art school is some kind of cashier or low level employee. They sell their art on the weekends at fairs and festivals and hardly make any money. They could be making triple the money during the week and still selling their art on the weekends if they went to normal college.

Isn't staying in college a waste if he's failing classes though? He'd be better off taking some time away from school until he gets more focused as an individual.
Granted, school season and festival season are two different things, and you could do both if you managed your time well.

You only fail college if you don't do your homework and dont study for tests. If he can't handle doing that how can he do anything?

Some people are simply unfocused for school classes they don't have any real interest in. I just don't think it's worth throwing large amounts of money at something if you're not investing it in anything. It's pissing it down the drain otherwise. No use going in debt to get F's just to prove you can. Better to go back to it with more determination, ensuring your investment is a good one.

Yeah, maybe he needs to take less classes each semester so he can focus on passing. Switch majors to one he is interested in. Or take some time off and do construction until he's ready to head back.
That jewelry doesn't look like it would sell and even if it did, would it be enough to live on and save for emergencies? I'm really curious how much he is making a month selling that stuff.

Take Picasso for example, he made it big with his art, he got wealthy. But the difference between him and the million others who didn't make it, is he had the talent from birth. He was destined for it and is a 1 in a million example.
Bob Ross made millions because of art and he didn't sell paintings of get paid for his shows. He also said almost every episode that, "You don't need to be blessed by Michelangelo to make beautiful art, just takes practice and a desire!"

Not really. College is all about following instructions and they give you those on the first day of class. If you can do that then you can pass. If you have trouble understanding classes there are tutors to help. He also has the library and internet. Almost any problem can be found and researched on the internet. If he isn't passing it is because he isn't trying or is just dumb.

it looks like you do pretty good work, i know someone who does wire wrapping and makes his living off it, and his are pretty shitty comparatively. i live in a city that really gets behind local art though, it'll all be about your location and getting in to art festivals.

If college is really making you miserable you should definitely drop out and pursue other interests.
On that note, your jewelry probably wont sell very well as other people have pointed out. That being said, college will always be there for you if you decide to go back.
I'd suggest switching your major to something that holds your attention. It worked really well for me.

I think we've already established that he isn't' trying...
instructions don't cause someone to feel inspiration or motivation.

College is really about how much effort you're willing to put in. If you seriously want to finish you'll find a way. Good luck with whatever you decide, OP.
