Wow, that tub turned out great. If you are ever doing a print giveaway, let me know! They look like AA+, but more solid/dense. Does that sound about accurate? Maybe a bit darker colored too. It doesn't look like it kicks out as many little ones either, which isn't necessarily good or bad, imo

You are spot on actually. The fruits tend to have a spongy type tissue in the centre's and are usually not hollow at all. I have had  a few small ones but they do tend to be big bastards. So far potency had been really good too.

Mine definitely has some sticks, but 100% peat otherwise. Premier brand name

Then after you sift it ya gotta lime it, and then properly pasteurize it. No thanks.

Hey if ya like peat that's great. For me it's a PITA. I use it for some species but for cubes I find that they often blow through the peat just as easy.

I can get peat just not jiffy. The peat here is usually loaded with sticks and perlite, often it has plant ferts added as well. I do use cactus mix on occasion but it's a lot of messing around. With the bucket I can make enough casing for 4 tubs in 5 min.

From those coir casing pics you posted, it looks like you've got it figured out.

Mainly used for Tamps and my blob-free APE tub

Only pasteurized.  I don't lime anything.

Haven't had it colonized like that

Depends on culture. Some will and some won't. IME it's the same for both coir or peat. A clone that eats casing quickly doesn't care if it's coir or peat. While one that wants to fruit quick or if the casing is applied after the sub is already colonized often won't be eaten.

Remember these tubs were done with the fruiting and casing at spawning method. So far I have found that this method often chow's the casing real fast. But yields usually don't suffer, and if you can keep conditions up, the colonized casing still provides a great platform for pinning.

I am starting to suspect that these clones are going to turn out much like my 3rd gen did. The clone C poo entry is exploding with primodia. The pins seem to be coming from down deep as well and are punching up. Some really mutated looking SOBs as well.

Clone A coir on left, poo on right

Clone B

Clone C

I am super stoked to see how this plays out. I doubt I will keep any of these clones but the prospect of moving up a gen and seeing the tendencies form is super cool. Slow fruiting speeds seem to be a hallmark but it seems to me that good stuff grows slow anyways.

I had what I think is a gnat outbreak once, they were being drawn to some pots I filled with compost to throw my spent tubs in outside. My true nemesis is mites though, you can never really get rid of them. Super annoying but it doesn't seem like they have been making it into my tubs so far. I seen a pic of a guy who's mites were poking holes through his SFDs to get into his jars.

Looking great pasty, some really weird ones in there for sure :dancer:

What a difference a day makes. We now have clone C making a play for the best. Started out looking like a goat, might finish as the MVP. Poo tub simply exploded with pins. Also has a fruit traveling just under the casing like some kinda psyche sub. Then we got clone B looking like it wants to explode but just can't. I bet it maybe might have done better with a more traditional spawn run. Finally clone A is just chugging along steady but decent.

Clone A with coir on the left. . .

Okay I think I can almost certainly declare clone A the winner. I am expecting to print either tomorrow or Thursday and should have final tally by then. From a clone hunt perspective this has been a little disappointing, tho I suspect that they all might have done better with a more traditional spawn method, the number of pins coming up for B and C certainly attest to that. Second flush should be pretty good.

But this log ain't about no second flush, and neither am I. This is about moving the lineage, and while clone A might not have produced a stellar canopy, I am happy with the fruits robustness and growth. B and C are putting out some real mutants as well so that is another strike against those guys. Provided potency is good and they have brown spores, I think I can move on to the 5th gen with the spores from clone A.

From a poo vs coir standpoint this seems to be more interesting. It almost looks like some preferred one over the other, and neither was a clear winner across the board. Leads me to think that genetics and genetics alone is the real factor. Clone B for sure shit the bed on the poo tub, where the plain coir seemed to do better.
