Are there any UFC fans in the pub?

I am 29 years old and have become completely obsessed with mixed martial arts and the UFC.
I find watching the athletes and their performances incredibly motivating and inspiring.
The courage, determination, skill and tenacity of the fighters is profoundly moving to me, and I take real heart in my own life from seeing the way they push themselves and overcome incredible adversity with honour and valor.
As a martial artist, I also feel like I learn a lot from watching the fights, and as an athlete I try to model my own workout regimine on the way they train for fights.
As entertainment, I find the fights enormously exhilarating and the human drama that plays out and the personalities of the fighters fascinate me .
I have taken to training intensely for up to four hours a day, and often watch UFC fights as I do my technique training and my strength and conditioning.
I was wondering if there are any other fans of UFC here, because I would enjoy having someone to talk about it with.
I have never been a fan of sports before and I finally understand what people get out of following sports closely.
So, are there any fans here ? Who are your favorite fighters ?
And is there anyone else here who trains any martial arts , or even mixed martial arts ?
My own background is in Judo, which I trained in for years and used to compete in. That gave me a base of take down and grappling skills, and now I am working every day to improve my striking skills with kickboxing / Muay Thai practice .
I am also taking my strength and conditioning to a new level, and I believe my new obsession with UFC has really helped me to blow past the fitness plateau I was stuck at .
It's also really revolutionized my mindset, Outlook and attitude .
I am going to begin attending a kickboxing class and an MMA "fight" class at my local gym, and get into either a jujitsu or a Krav Maga class ASAP.
I will not engage in any striking sparring because of the new understanding of the cumulative harm of head trauma , but will/am training intensively in all other aspects of fighting.
I am also taking a testosterone catalyst which has really helped my condition and I think the combination of the testosterone catalyst , the workouts and the UFC is changing all aspects of my mind and body.
Anyways just wanted to open up a discussion of any and all facets of martial arts and UFC.

I've seen a grand total of one UCF fight in my life 5 years ago, and I was blown away by the intensity and the sheer devotion it takes to master such an art form. I have no idea where or how to watch it though, and I never got further into it.
Is there any way I can stream MMA fights online?
I hope to pick up a martial art at some point in my life, and soon. Feel it would work wonders for my psyche.

When I lived in Cali I had a buddy who ordered fights all the time...just about every event he could. Ever since I left I haven't watched any but was following the sport by reading about it on mmajunkie. These days I feel the UFC is a bit of a joke with soooo many rematches. I wouldn't watch it anyway if I could afford to. There are too many fighters in the organization for rematches out the ass like they do now.

I'm a huge mma fan and followed the UFC closely for many years. I've kind of strayed away from it a bit in the past 6 years. But still watch it and follow it a little
It's the only sport I've ever understood or got into.
I agree with your assessment. They are phenomenal athletes
I have a long and strong background in shotokan karate, wrestling and some judo.
I have also been in my fair share of real scraps when I was a younger man.
I love talking about UFC.
I downloaded UFC 200 but haven't watched it yet. No spoilers!
My favourite fighters are: (many are retired now)
1) George st Pierre 2) Anderson silva 3) lyoto machida 4) fedor 5) vitor Belfort 6) Shane carwin 7) Jon Jones (he's a clown but a phenomenal athlete)

You need to register in one of the probably infinite UFC/MMA message boards out there, broseph. There's an MMA thread in the shroomery sports forum that stays pretty active, but if you really wanna get in depth then you'll want to find you a true UFC board.
I'm a hardcore boxing fan myself and I found me a great fucking board to get my boxing discussion fix taken care of. That's the only other forum I actively and regularly participate in outside of this one.

Fav 5 fighters:
Alistair Overeem - who will be taking the belt from Stipe. Venom Page Robbie Lawler Bas Rutten Wanderlei Silva
If you have the chance, get the movie: Smashing Machine . It's about Mark Kerr, and it is really interesting. I've watched it 3 or 4 times. It shows the amount of pain some of these guys go through, and the rabbit hole of pain meds. You'll notice appearances by Mark Coleman, Kevin Randleman, Bas, and quite a few other players.

Eh, at this point UFC athletes all fight the same.
Its a mixed martial art, in the singular form. As much as I respect their strength as fighters, its not a martial art which I find entertaining or care to watch.
Also just not a fan of watching sports, dealing with all the bs that goes into it (like Mayweather style boxing, mainstream futbol everything, olympic TKD and fencing bs point system, the list goes on).

"Eh, at this point UFC athletes all fight the same."
This is simply untrue. Fighters have very distinct styles and skill sets, relying to different degrees on different martial arts.
But it is true that no one comes into the octagon relying on a single martial art any more. Any fighter who wants to be competitive must have a solid base in both grappling and striking skills.
But those skills can come from Karate (Lyoto Machita), Kickboxing (Mark Hunt, Alistair Overeem), Judo (Hector Lombard, Ronda Rousey). Sambo (Khabib Nurgomedov), Jujitsu (Fabricio Werdum) etc.

I respectfully disagree with this as well.
Some boxers are defensive minded. Some aren't. Some are all offense, face first brawlers who throw the concept of defense out the window. Some are extremely athletic and use the entire ring to their advantage. Some don't or can't. Some are slow, plodding bombers with lots of power who just look for the one punch knockout. Some have very little power who just try to stay busy with their punches so they can get a decision on the scorecards. Some like to fight from long range and are really uncomfortable when their opponents get in close. Some like it close and prefer to trade bombs in a virtual phone booth. Some beat you with experience, some beat you with pure raw talent. Some have a really good jab game, some barely throw jabs. Some like to hold a lot and make it an ugly fight. Some don't. Some can put together mesmerizing punch combinations, while others can only put 1 or 2 shots together at a time.
There are many, many, many different boxing styles.

When you say that it shows that either you have watched very few UFC fights, have very little understanding of martial arts, or both.
There is not a single educated UFC fan who would agree with what you are saying.
In UFC you have Olympic wrestlers competing against kick boxing champions , jujitsu masters and karate masters, SAMBO champions fighting against Muay Thai champions and Olympic Judo experts.
You have fighters like SAMBO champion Khabib Nurgomedov who relies almost exclusively on his world class wrestling and Grappling, and you have Lyoto Machida who relies exclusively on his mastery of Karate.
Khabib uses entirely grappling, Machida uses exclusively his unique karate striking style. Neither fighter is even remotely capable of emulating the other fights style . They come to the cage with drastically different skill sets, backgrounds and strategies and they fight totally differently.
Rhonda Rousey- Olympic Judoka. Relies heavily on explosive Judo throws.
Holly Holm- kickboxing champion. Demolishes Ronda by relying on her striking which eclipses Rondha's, while making sure to avoid the take down or going you e ground where she knows Ronda would have a massive advantage .
Daniel Cormier - Olympic wrestler: relies heavily on his wrestling skills.
Carlos Condit- highly technical elite striker who relies of precision accuracy and lightning speed kicks and punche .
Nick and Nate Diaz- rely very heavily on their totally unique style of MMA boxing and have great jujitsu if it goes to the ground.
Connor Mcgregor - utilizes a unique mix of karate, boxing and capoeira but has a disadvantage on the ground due to a lack of jujitsu or wrestling back ground.
Mark Hunt- world class kick boxer relying on super powder knock out punches. Very little grappling or wrestling , no jujitsu background. Emphasizes striking and tries to avoid going to the ground.
Febricio Werdum- master of Jujitsu and submission fighting. Deadly on the ground .
Alistair overeem- kickboxing champion who relies on masterful and powerful kicks, and avoids going to the ground.
All these fighters have totally unique backgrounds and skill sets. The idea that an Olympic wrestler would even try to fight the same As a kickboxing world champion is ridiculous, and the idea that he would be able to even if he tried is impossible.
Everyone in MMA has a unique background, skill set and strategy and fighters do not even try to fight the same way, each is keenly aware of where he has an advantage and fights accordingly , relying on different styles of striking and grappling.
Even among striking heavy fighters there are huge differences between boxing styles (Diaz) karate styles (Machida) and kickboxing / Muay Thai styles (Hunt, Holm) just As even Among grapplers an informed viewer will see massive differences between those who rely on wrestling (Cormier, Cehudo), Judo (Rousey, Lombard) , Jujitsu (Werdum, Aldo) or Sambo (Khabib)
You have strikers who emphasize power and knockouts and strikers who emphasize volume and aim to win by decision.
You have strikers who favour leg kicks (Aldo) and those who rely almost entirely on punches (Roy Nelson)
You have ligntning fast fighters who use agility and constant movement to avoid being hit (Cruz, Thompson) and those who stand in the pocket and Bang (Nelson, Hunt)
I'm sorry, but you aren't just mistaken but what you are saying is actually absurd to anyone who actually follows and understands the sport.
To imagine that an Olympic wrestler would be even remotely capable of fighting in the same style As a world champion kick boxer, let alone would try to, is literally insane .
And all you need to do is watch a few fights to see how wrong what you Are saying is.
Go watch a few Carlos Condit fights and then a few daniel Cormier fights and tell me they are even remotely similar styles.
Go watch few Anderson silva fights and then a few Roy Nelson fights and tell me they are even vaguely similar styles .
Go watch mark hunt fight and then watch a few Lyoto machida fights .
I could go on and on. How would it even be possible for an Olympic wrestler to fight the same As a karate point fighting champion?
It isn't. They don't.
Each fighter is unique, they use and rely on very diverse styles, and every fight involves a unique match up between unique athletes with unique backgrounds and Skills.
If you like I can recommend any number of fights to watch to see for yourself.

It is true that as UFC evolves it is less and less feasible to try and be competitive without having competency in all aspects of fighting.
Anyone who wants to be a champion is going to try and strengthen there weak points and fill any gaps in their game . That does not in any way mean that fighter don't have very unique and different styles and skills.
Everyone needs to be able to strike and grapple, but there are a huge variety of styles of both striking and grappling, and people emphasize different aspects Of the fight game in there strategies .
Someone from a wrestling background is always going to try and brush up in his Striking and vice versa, but a wrestler isn't going to stand and trade kicks with a kick boxer and a kick boxer isn't going to try and take a jujitsu master and choke him out.

I enjoy the art of combat. Wrestled 8 years boxed for 6. Buts it's something I just don't care much about. As when I see 2 grown adults fighting it's childish. I loved wrestling though. It's the art of control.
Im not very big I'm 5'10" 135. A friend tried to wrestle me and way stronger. But I knew I was smaller so I went and asked my coach can you teach me the art of deflection. I throw around 200+lb people and it's not even me doing it. I'm fairly strong but not really.

I just throw people around. Always love that feeling but I don't fight anymore. That was high school my body doesn't heal as fast. But I do enjoy watching someone get knocked the fuck out. Oh shit nigga what area code you in!
