Under these conditions the gateway to truly extraordinary things is opened up. When the mundane senses have a chance to relax, other realms are able to be experienced. That's the short explanation.

Your mind can be distracted from more in-depth experiences due to outside factors pulling your brains attention, like sound, light, etc.
If you want to go all the way, only be in the experience, nothing else. This means silent darkness.

Silent darkness is the best way to trip.

Three years ago I tripped for the first time after years of not tripping. Wife and kids were 1,000 miles away and I had the house to myself. I prepared by going to Home Depot and buying some colored lights and putting them in all the lamps in my bedroom. I went shopping for some interesting things to eat - fresh fruit, ice cream, etc. I spent over an hour selecting music to listen to.

I made my tea and drank it. I got the music and the lights going. Then I laid down on the bed and waited. It hit me hard. Everything became a distraction. The music confused me so I shut it off. I got tired of looking at the same old bedroom, so I shut the lights off. The apple I was trying to eat was just too much effort. All my plans went out the window and laid there in silent darkness and the activity in my mind took over. That was more than enough to keep me occupied for hours. When I started to come down, that's when I turned the lights on, started listening to music and eating.

All my best experiences have been silent darkness. It's almost a completely different experience for me at least. That being said I still have fun just screwing around not in silent darkness.

Yeah it's not bad to trip with music or any other stimuli, it can be awesome. The reason Terence McKenna and others suggest silent darkness was for the deep transcendent experiences that come with disconnection from the mind.

I like tripping in the woods or down by the beach at night time. I like to go for walks when I'm tripping rather than hole myself up in a room. Walking clears my head and makes the trip go better.

On LSD I like to lay back with headphones on.

Ive never heard it recommended to have an acid trip in silent darkness, as Ive heard with mushrooms.

That's because mushrooms (even when taken in very small doses) can give visionary experiences plus the darkness evokes the true nature of the mushroom entity. They say it speaks too.

They call psilocybin mushroom trips "the journey of the alone into the alone". It is a dark psychedelic. Why do you think people do DMT in silent darkness? Same reason.

It is also very ancient and that's generally how people take things like entheogens. High doses infrequently and in darkness. It's been that way for thousands of years.
That's when you really go places and when the substance REALLY shows you what it wants to show you. You need nothing but silence and darkness if you want the full message and experience from the mushrooms. They are tolerant and make this much more possible in the dark because they know you might just want to be tripping in nature in the daylight for other reasons. It has reserved the darkness for showing and confounding you.

I just don't see how you guys do this, maybe past the come up and when the trip is already in after a few hours

But anytime before that I mean, I can't even.. it's a STRUGGLE just to meditate with your eyes closed

Can you meditate without getting too distracted?
If not, then practicing meditation will help you learn how to be still and silent during a trip.
I wish I could show you exactly how worth it, it is.

Ive done shrooms 3 times - long ago. The third was in mostly silent darkness, though there were a few interruptions, externally and internally. It wasnt a good scene, for countless reasons. (I mean that I was the cause, not that silence was bad)

Ive become reaquainted with psychedelics, of late. Its a far more spiritual experience now - almost entirely so. Perhaps entirely so.

Ill have to see for myself, of course, but the vision journeys of the native peoples of this continent are mostly what I have in mind for my own...enlightenment (Im not a fan of that word, but its useful here). Im skeptical because true silence and darkness may be only synthetic creations of ours and not a natural state of nature. Or, that may be my intellectual brain trying to grasp at things...

Im still gonna try it, though. Im glad the messages here have to do with connecting and not just that darkness makes CEV better or some other superficiality.

Where is it called the journey of the alone? Id like to read about that. Also, what do you mean by "dark"?

Well obviously it's gonna be pretty hard to meditate the first 3 or 4 hours. The clearheadedness doesn't come until the end around hour 5 and what do you mean how do we do this? You just sit there.

I don't know I've just heard Terence McKenna and Kilindi Iyi call it that and I don't know if you've ever had a psilocybin experience but if you do it kind of makes sense. It's a lot different from other psychs in the subjects it deals with.

Supposedly plants like Salvia and Ayahuasca even marijuana they have a different agenda which is "save the rainforests" and save the planet and whatnot but psilocybin mushrooms is an off-world experience. It has a different message, a more galactic one.

It's kind of hard to know what I mean or what anyone means when they say shrooms feels "dark"..
I'm sure you can look it up. Have you ever had shrooms? Because it's kind of apparent to most people that they are a rather 'dark' psychedelic in contrast to the others.

Because it won't be silent or dark for very long.
