So I had a thought. Would it be possible for someone to wander deep into the forest of Montana or Oregon and just build a house and live off the grid? You would eat by hunting animals and gather your own water and burn wood to stay warm in the winter. I mean if you didn't do it in private property, you'd be all right right?

The land is public or private. Either way someone finds you and the building structure it's gonna get trouble. I read about a group of people loving off the land in Montana. Sorry but I didn't catch their name. They didn't have perminant camps or buildings, lived a bit like Rainbow.

Alaska ppl do it,watch "life below zero" When salmon run u can get all the protein u want,go up for a summer see how u like it Seward is a good spot for fishing, some bars, tourism, fish processing,I camped in the legal spots on the bay and also up in the hills around it,kinda sketchy with the bears, when it rains and your in your tent or under a tarp and can't hear big animals approaching

very cool article, great pics too. I think I will just stick to wilderness camping for now but I'd like to try something more like this later in life. Maybe a month out in the wild.

That's why I was asking. If the government doesn't get anything out of it, theyll find some way to get at ya.
