Hello all. I just want to share a discovery I made. I've tried mushrooms a number of times now in doses ranging from 0.1 to 3 grams and no matter the dose the vasoconstriction that resulted was intense. At higher doses the intensity was actually painful in this gnawing, aching way that just made me want to curl in a ball in a hot bath to ease the resulting cramps and to stay warm.
Some history: In the past I suffered from severe orthostatic hypotension that required me to receive an intravenous liter of fluids every day to keep my blood volume up. I had to do this for almost a year but then the chest port I had got infected, abscessed and had to be removed. For various reasons I could not get the port replaced and had to find alternative ways to increase my blood volume (just consuming excess salt or liquids did not work and the pharmaceuticals I tried made me sicker). In my adventures I discovered that body builders often use vegetable glycerin to "hyper hydrate" during workouts and before shows because it can increase blood volume, thus improving their workouts and giving them a more pumped, vascular look. In my desperation I tried it and it worked - really well. Fortunately, I no longer need it but I realized that it might help counter the vasoconstriction effects that make mushrooms so difficult for me to enjoy.
Yesterday, I figured I'd give it a chance and used 1 tablespoon USP-grade vegetable glycerin in a third a liter of water (black decaf tea to be precise) about an hour before taking 3 grams of mushroom tea. For the first time there was ZERO pain or discomfort and almost no chills. WOOHOO!

I have seen a few people describe similar physical experiences to mine and, while I'm not recommending anyone try this, I figured I'd share the information. Some things to know:
- Glycerol (glycerin/glycerine) is on the banned substance list for athletes because of its effectiveness as a plasma expander. If you're a professional athlete, don't use this.
- DO NOT take glycerin without a large amount of water. The stomach cramps you experience will be EXTREMELY PAINFUL. Glycerin is sweet. I like to add it to a thermos of green or black tea and drink it that way.
- For a woman, 1 tablespoon of glycerin should be plenty. Larger men would probably want to use 2 tablespoons.
- For obvious reasons I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with heart failure, edema of any kind, or who may be dehydrated even in the slightest.
Again, a disclaimer: I'm not a medical professional and this is just my experience.
