Setting up a Second Monitor, quick question?
    #23443574 - 07/15/16 10:36 AM (7 years, 7 months ago)

Here's the deal.

1st Monitor: Asus VG248QE
Already hooked up, DVI-I into my GPU DVI-I connection.
Monitor also has a HDMI slot.

2nd Monitor: BenQ-G12460
Has these connections available:
HDMI
DVI-D
DSUB(VGA)
came with a VGA cable.

My GPU: EVGA Geoforce GTX770
Has a DVI-I and a DVI-D slot.

My MOBO: Asus Z97 pro
has VGA HDMI and DVI-I slots.

CPU: I7 4790K

So I've gotten conflicting info on wether or not I can actually set my second monitor up. I want to set them up so they are both connected to my GPU, otherwise if I have one on my mobo, and the other on GPU i think I have to tinker in BIOS which I don't really want to do. So can anyone help me on which connector I need to get in order to do this?
Preferably if I could still use my VGA cord, and just get an adapter to fit into my GPU DVI-D slot. I've read that it only sends digital or analog that way or something? Is it possible to have an adapter that will make this work?

Right now Iv got the second monitor hooked up to my VGA slot on my MOBO and its not being recognized by my computer (no signal).
Any ideas?

If you want both connected to the GPU, Buy a second DVI cable. The DVI-D should work fine on either monitor it just won't work with analog monitors(CRTs). You should then be able to setup multiple monitors in graphics properties.

Hope this helped some.

The other simple fix is to buy a DVI to analog adapter that should work on the DVI-I connection (DVI-I sends both analog and digital signals DVI-D doesn't).

Nice, yes that does help. Just to be sure, I can buy a cable such as this one http://www.newegg.ca/DVI-Cables/SubCategory/ID-2814

Thank you

incase the link doesnt work it's a DVI-D to DVI-D cable. It makes sense that that cable would work unless I'm missing something.
