Fermented straw bulk grow question

I see most people use fermented straw techniques for pleurotus but I would really like to try it out for bulk grow of cubes. Are there any experiences out there, and would you expect it will work.
I plan to do the following - bring water to boil, and throw the straw in while still hot but not boiling. Let cool to room temp and pour some water from jar of fresh pickle in it. Close air tight and leave for 2-4 days. Ditch the water and hand press the water out, dump into a plastic bag with air filter and throw a jar of spawn on top. The rest would be the usual. Would you expect it will work, or am I throwing a perfectly good spawn?

Never even heard of this. With straw people generally hydrate and pasteurize in a dish soap bath or lime bath. Yes cubes can be grown on pure straw tho if you're curious. Not sure if that's something you were wondering, or if you're just wondering about the fermented straw tek with cubes.

I am strictly wondering about fermented straw, I am experienced with pasteurized straw.

well not sure if there's many here who have done this thing. Personally I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work if it works well with oysters. I'd say just give it a shot and report back.

I've done cubes on lime pasteurized straw leftover from spawning oysters and the cubes didn't do nearly as well as I had hoped I'd recommend proper hot water pasteurized straw for cubes

The only fermenting method I know of involves soaking it for an extended period of time. The idea being certain bacteria will thrive in the anaerobic environment while everything else will die, but then you flip the table by draining it and introducing shit loads of fresh air killing said bacteria.
The whole point of this method is that it works with just cold water and nothing else. If you're going to pasteurize it with hot water first then what's the point of doing it?
Hot water pasteurization is the best method in my experience, though I have done cold water lime and that worked okay too. Id worry about PH more with cubes than I would with oysters which might be another reason hot water works better.

I would pasteurize it for the sole reason to kill off spores of other fungi.

but that's the same reason people ferment it, why do both?

I believe it would make the straw more stable against other contaminants, I personally have quite a lot of problem with green molds. Also it is just a cool idea for me that lactobacillus and cubes can work as allies. But ok, I understand it can be somewhat obsolete.

The name for that is silage. Cows love the stuff. It's a fairly specific microbe used, and like pasteurization, keeps bad microbes from colonizing.
Should be safe for fungi. Look it up now that you have the name

Thanks mate that is exactly what I was looking for. Seems that you can make some from fresh grass clippings and I have shitload of Phalaris Arundinacea growing around me which supposedly contains DMT and 5-MEO, I'm quite excited about this experiment.

You're welcome
A bit of alfalfa can really boost the protein content since grasses are quite low in aminos. Per weight it's on par with meat.
