Any of you planning on having kids? why / why not?

I'm leaning towards not having them.
Reasons:
1. Overpopulation 2. Too selfish with my time 3. I have some traits that I don't think would be kind to pass onto a spawn.

I'm ambivalent about them, I'd like one to pass on my awesomeness to but on the other hand, I'm perfectly happy with out them.

I plan to have kids someday when I am stable enough to support it/them the way I see necessary. Why? Because I am the last male on my dad's side, so I feel the responsibility to preserve the bloodline/last name.

Yes i think i will have kids because i will abducted and raped by aliens and they will x my DNA with space beings and i will spawn the new race of slimy alien humanoid insectoids. They have a long green dogpenis like penis that captures opponents with a spiderman like fishnet . Once they catch you, you are powerless to stop them, nothing u can do.... they will destroy you... You and everything on this planet... Theyl destroy you all...

I'm not planning on it myself but if one day I find the right lady and find myself in a position to do so I may consider having one
I used to be against the idea entirely but I'm still very young so I still have plenty of time

It's hard to understand what it means to have kids when you still are one. Hell, I'm almost 25. I'm still kind of a kid myself I think. I'm still figuring it all out but my kids will always be everything to me. That's the thing that I've learned the most really, that so many things are more important than my needs. Becoming something larger than myself and having a part of myself to learn, as well as wanting to pass on my knowledge and contentment in to the world was such a big motivator to me. I don't know if I would have stepped up to adulthood quite the way I have without my kids. People look at me weird when I say I'm 24 with two kids I planned to have, but that's my life and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Me and my wife have been together 8 years, still no kids. Planning on having one or two (max, I'll get snipped after two) after we knock some things off our bucket lists.
We want to do some international traveling first (in the Mediterranean, China and South America) to check out some ancient monuments/sites, go sky diving, release some music, get the ball rolling on higher education (wife's an LPN, needs another year to become an RN and bachelors).
Stuff like that. Will probably have kids in a couple years.
I have some cool heirlooms to pass down when the time comes. I have a pocket watch from my great, great, great, great, great grandfather that's been passed down to every first grandson in the family line. If I don't have any male heirs though, I'll pass it to my nephew somewhere down the line. Got some other stuff as well to disperse, and I would like to take a class on blacksmithing at some point, or perhaps commission something to make a sword/shield to be passed down in the family line as well.

Well let's see
- I'm 30 with no girlfriend prospect at the moment. - I'm not rich enough. - I can't stand the presence of of another human in my personal space. - I have like 22 mental illnesses I could give the kid. - I'm the most selfish guy I know. - I hate kids - My mom and pops aren't pushing me towards it - I can't stay in a relationship for more than 3 months because they all get on my nerves - I dislike noise
So yeah. I guess I'll have 4 of them.

Right, mental illness and addiction runs rampant on both sides of my family. I definitely wouldnt want to give these characteristics to a kid. That would be horrible. I also am uncertain about my parenting abilities. Not that Id neglect my child, but I see alot of my mom in me when it comes to other traits. I would hate to find out I am like my mom in the parenting department. I have said I wouldnt hit/beat my kids. I definitely think physical punishment is okay under certain terms, spanks and all that, but my mom beat the shit out of me as a kid. it was like she saw red and then got off on hurting me. Id hate to find that trait in myself. I dont know what I would do with myself.

We give something purpose, that is something entirely human. The universe has nothing to do with what meaning we give our lives. If we basify our desires and needs in such a way that the largest denominator needlessly outweighs what is relevant to us, our lives would quickly lose meaning to the point of having no purpose at all. Life is relative to the observer, if you choose to see the importance in front of you then that is what you'll see.

Couldn't have any of my own so I ended up looking after someone else's. It's not the boys fault their father wanted little to do with them and they needed some male to care for them. Of course they've brought a lot of joy and meaning to my life so I figure it was sperm daddy who was the ultimate loser. Plus I got his woman and she's a topper so he was a fool.
I'd be willing to bet that most of you saying no way to kids will have a few within 20 years time. Not wanting them when you're young goes with the territory. Tastes and feelings naturally change with time, even when you are thoroughly convinced they will never change.

NO. I am 51 and have been through 3 abortions (that I know of) and am VERY happy that I never had them. It was agreed by both parties to terminate. I have thought about what it would have been like and the negatives outweigh the positives. I feel like one has to have a certain amount of money and and at least some brains/intelligence. A lot of people have kids because they think that is what they are supposed to do/have a complete and fulfilling life blah blah blah.
The pressure of friends, family, movies, peers etc to procreate makes me sick honestly. One better have the means and the intelligence to pass on to the next generation of children. Frivolously having kids just to "pass on the bloodline because I am the last male" and other such nonsense is a problem.

LOL that was hilarious, I wanna watch a full show of that guy.
Got a kid that will be here in 11 days, so yeah were planning on it. I guess we decided to just because the time came for us to either do it, or it never happen. And in fact that time passed and we thought our window of opportunity was over, then all of a sudden bam shes pregnant. We would have been fine either way, kids/no kids. But now that weve been planning for nearly 9 straight months on this girl coming out into the world, I am all in. ~9 months of ultrasounds and watching her jump around on screen, feeling her kick and tumble around every night, and go nuts when I get close to my wifes stomach and start reading. Its insane man.
If you find the right person and decide you would like to raise a little copy of yourselves as a team together, and that you can teach pretty much whatever you want to, I say take the opportunity. But to each their own at the same time, I totally get either point of view.

Already have one. Coming on 2 years old now. Coolest little guy ever.
We always said we didn't want a kid... I never thought I would have kids ever.
But then right around 32.. it just happened.. and we went with it..
It's extremely hard but also extremely rewarding. Nothing brings me joy like seeing my son learning and growing (fast as FUCK!!!) and being happy.. he's like a little mini me.. it blows my mind sometimes.

well my biological clock in my nuts is ticking and if I had one kid i'd need another otherwise it would become to shy/spoiled/boring then you need to get health insurance so thats like 120,000 240,000... a place to live that's anywhere 120,000-200,000 at the very least and it's in the ghetto then it needs to learn something 20,000-40,000 then it needs transportation 20,000 car insurance 10,000
so 310,000 on one child
oh yeah and property tax ok make that
450,000
lets see how much i have now 330$ any day now that 15 dollar min wage is going to make me rich i been (not) working all these years on 7.25 an hour lucky me

Never had any interest and my sister finally stepped up to the plate and popped out twins to keep my mom occupied, so the pressure is off. Wife brought one but he just turned 18 so I can enjoy the company without ever changing a diaper. Once I found out she was live I went and got fixed right away.

yeah well said. I can't even IMAGINE having a kid in my 20s.. that would have fucking sucked. I was pretty irresponsible and just LIVING MAH LIFE and traveling/partying etc. That got old though... by my late 20s I was pretty much over the whole party/club/fest/vagabond scene and wanted some stability in my life. Stability came.. then the baby came shortly after. I think it was pretty much the best time to have a kid for us.. although you are NEVER fully prepared.. at 32.. not too young.. not too old.. I was relatively in the right place, mentally, emotionally and financially.. and much wiser and more mature. Would have killed me if I had a kid at 20.

Personally I grew up around a dad who was an alcoholic with a lot of friends and family. I started drinking young and had been to enough parties, participating or not, by the time I decided I wanted to try for a kid. All that partying and travelling isn't for me. Not that I don't donpsychedelics every now and then still, but if it's with anyone it's with the wife and she's only tripped with me maybe 5-6 times in 5 years.
Personally I like the idea of being a younger parent because it opens up more opportunity for me to enjoy years that a lot of people who wait to have kids, don't. Atleast not in the sense of what a life is like without having dependants. I'll be young enough to travel with my kids, or whatever. If they want to do shrooms I won't be so old that I'm just gonna drop dead from a heart condition or something. I was 22 when I had my son and it's worked out fine for me. I couldn't imagine being close to or in my 40's and having a kid like a lot of people do.. it's so much work, even for a guy my age. Basically what I'm saying is if I didn't have kids I'd be bored, at home playing video games or doing drugs.

Babies literally creep me out. I cannot stand being near them. Toddlers are worse. .getting their nasty hands on everything.
After that. .they're not too bad..but i don't want to be responsible for one. Feck that.
Husband is getting a vasectomy soon as we've saved for it. I'm not taking any chances.

Re shroomism: That's exactly how I imagine the next 20 years going (I'm 22 atm). Have a 10 year old by age 40 or so isn't bad at all.
But yeah my girl and I are both very very against babies atm. You most certainly cannot take a baby to a metal show or raving. We both agree by age 30 or so (we are the same age) we will definitely want kids . Basically after all the fun like you explained. Traveling and experiencing until that gets old and then it's family time. I love family so much so I'm sure I'm going to be a great dad one day. Until then I have about 10 nieces and nephews
One of the very first told me when we started dating was she's on birth control and I just happen to really need that kind of girlfriend. Now that I know her better i love tons of things about her but that's a big issue for me because I just don't think it's right to ask a woman to get birth control if she doesn't already have it.

I guess it's different for everyone, but I seriously couldn't see myself having kids in my 20s.. no way I could have handled one. My mom had me when she was 19. Ha.

Do you think having say a 10 y/o at age 40 Is reasonably "not old" ?
(I also had older parents then everyone else but I had a different experience)
