Yeah its gonna be hard to top the last movie or maybe it was a mini series or made for tv movie idk.

The books pretty good, the part where the town got tipped off bank robbers were coming so the town set them up and shot them up, and multiple people reported seeing a clown shooting but no one gives a fuck.

Or the part where the black kid gets terrorized by  a pterodactyl, Feeling i want to read that book again so many trippy things happen.

Also fun fact the symbol on the door to its lair was on the box generating the dome in under the dome.

I like how King's books are commonly connected like that, with the symbols and other stuff.  It makes an obvious appearance in '11.22.63', and I believe the species/race of creatures that It is from appears in 'Revival', but it's not explicitly stated.  I never read/watched Under The Dome, but that's neat.

I've been curious about this It remake since it was announced like 2 years ago.  The project stalled out for a while, but it looks like they're on the ball now, promo posters featuring the new Pennywise are out now.  I somehow doubt we'll see a scene wherein a bunch of 12 year olds run a train on Beverly Marsh, however.

Yeah king books are crazy connected, even apart from them all being set in maine.

I've read so many of his books they were my favorite since i had read misery in the 6th grade. I think ive read around 20 different pieces of his work maybe more he really cranks those books out, Unlike gerorge RR martin.

Dr. Sleep is nowhere near as good as its source material, The Shining, but I think it's worthwhile.  He explores much more of what "the shining" is and what it can do, and introduces a bunch of great characters.  If you like The Shining, it's definitely cool to follow up with Danny.

King published in late 2014 what I really think is one of his best books in a 40+ year career, book called 'Revival'.  Highly recommended.  Also, his most recent stuff has been a series called the 'Mr. Mercedes' trilogy.  They're essentially detective stories, in which it is cool to see King maintain his style through a departure of (and eventual return to) form.

I loved the movie "it" as a little kid even tho it scared me a little. I watched it again years and years and years later as a adult and was surprised that it actually scared me as a kid cuz it's not really that scary but when I was a little kid I thought it was.

I will only supoort this remake if they do it right, by replacing the original  with an all female cast.

 remakes suck  but then again the original was a made for tv mini series, so if they cut off some fat  do it right it could be done properly (the shining by kubrick comes to mind)

Have had enough of Hollywood remakes, romantic comedy with the most boring characters , and superhero remakes

Same copy paste shit

Once in a blue moon a new decent movie comes out, but imo  Hollywood is boring as hell anymore

I can't comment on romantic comedies, but I am pretty familiar with horror films.  You know that people have been making horror movies since the 1890s?  Since the 1920s, pretty much every horror film is a remake to some degree.  Some filmmakers embrace that fact and just remake classics, which is, IMO, better than a so-so movie being iterated into endless shitty sequels.  Sometimes we get Gus Van Sant's remake of 'Psycho', which was terrible, but sometimes we get excellent movies that are every bit as lovable as their source.  Rob Zombie's 'Halloween' and Fede Alvarez's 'Evil Dead' remakes come to mind.  So to hate on a remake simply because it's a remake, without even having seen it, is pretty ridiculous to me.  I don't fully understand why someone wouldn't want to see a beloved but older movie get updated for modern viewing.  If it sucks, don't watch it again; it's taken nothing away from the original.  But if it's great, then you've got a choice in perspective the next time you want to see that story.  Try to keep an open mind.

Just read about this today. I don't know why they want to remake IT, the original films were pretty decent.

They should make another story, perhaps that way they might come across as smart rather than dumb unimaginative money grabbing wannabes.

Not impressed.

The clown in the new film seems cheap and crappy, sounds like a drunk guy from New Jersey; Tim Curry was really good.
Even though the first half of the original movie was good, the second half was almost a different film.
I wonder if this film will be as long.

Yeah man they dig a spider hole like club house and they all take a turn with beverly, I was about  17-19 when i read it and had no clue how that scene moved the story forward i guess they were all connected better after the gang bang. Maybe i should ask the movement the importance of gang bangs with friends.

I figured they had already been drawn pretty close by the fucked up shit that happened to them.

The other upcoming Universal monster remake you're thinking of is (yet another) Wolfman story.

And of course I'm familiar with Hammer films.  They're cool, sometimes.  While there's never been one that I'm over the moon about, I do appreciate that gothic sense of classicism.  They still make films; check out The Woman in Black.  It was actually pretty decent.  I love all horror, foreign and domestic, but if you like movies with a certain aesthetic cohesion, look into Italian "giallo" horror.  Directors like Dario Argento and Lucio Fulci.  They took the sensibilities that made Hammer so recognizable, but craft the film elements like cinematography, lighting, and music into real art.  The acting usually sucks, but fuck it.  It's a horror movie.

@Burke, I hear that dracula untold was the start of the universal monsters remake, there already working on a mummy movie and some other i forgot.

You ever watch hammer films, They are pretty good. And recently i found out the movie sleepy hollow was done hammer style with the super red blood and strange esthetics.

Aren't they working on a universal monster movie universe? Idk if i heard someone say they should or if they are. While i think that would have some potential(more then the marvel universe) but i feel like if the marvel universe keeps doing well, we're gonna see 100 years of hollywood studios just making and merging shitty movies into half assed cinematic universes.

Idk i think it's funny how blatant hollywood is  copying mey details from other movies.

"Oh, inception used loud bassy noises to build tension? Guess what every trailers composition for the next three years will be!! What's that an R rated comic book movie did really well? Well let's throw a couple fucks and dick jokes in there and call It a night!!"

Superhero movies are the worst about this, but really so many genres and movies anymore just appear to be copy/paste formats with different characters. For the last 5 years or so my brain files superhero movies into the same slot as lifetime chick flicks(background noise)

Idk I'm gonna stop before i derail the thread.

I also just read Revival on Burkes recommendation. Entertaining but not his best by far

I loved Revival.  One of my biggest issues with King is that his endings are always really sappy, but that one ends bleak.  Also, the whole book is a love letter/homage to earlier horror authors, folks like Lovecraft, Poe, Shelley, etc.  I'm a fan of that classic stuff, so that was right up my alley.

Funny you say that. When I started reading King when I was in my early teens I always felt the books ended in a bad way for main character. At least compared to most of the stuff you get to read at that age. The ending to the Dark Tower was pretty brutal.

I think his works got a more positive vibe in general after he had that serious accident and almost died. Miracles and fate started to come in.

Revival was still a pageturner though, I read it two maybe three days

Tonight imma start 11/22/63

I read 'Insomnia' and nothing happened for a long time and I feel asleep.

Yeah the weirdness only comes in around page 100 or so

This actually what makes Kings books so creepy. Most of it is just ordinary life. This makes the horror more realistic

Not impressed.

The clown in the new film seems cheap and crappy, sounds like a drunk guy from New Jersey; Tim Curry was really good.
Even though the first half of the original movie was good, the second half was almost a different film.
I wonder if this film will be as long.

How can you say that already?

Perhaps you've seen more than I have, but I don't see how that's any indication of how well or poor the new actor will play Pennywise.

He even said that he's not trying to do better than Tim Curry... He's just trying to make Pennywise awesome on his own terms.

As for Revival, I fucking loved it. It kept getting better page by page :awesomenod:

Also, as has been said already, the 1st "film" was a made for TV movie... So they couldn't really do everything they wanted to since it was being broadcasted on over-the-air TV.

Now tthat they don't have that holding them back, I think they're really gonna be able to do a lot with it.

Plus, this will give the current generation the chance to experience the story without having to watch the old one, which may come off as campy or outdated or whatever to them.

Gosh, I hate when people get stuck in "it's not as good as this, so I won't like it".  Of course this Pennywise won't be as good as Tim Curry's!  But, like you said, take it on it's own terms, and you'll possibly end up with something just as great and incomparable (realistically, probably not- Tim Curry is a don).  That's how I got through the Harry Potter film adaptations- I just pretended there was no book and enjoyed them on their own.

I'm stoked to see a new interpretation. It is, IMO, hands down King's most terrifying bad guy.  It gets in your head, weaponizes your fears, and manifests a new reality based on what it finds in you.  That's pretty intense.  Plus, it feeds on children, even molests them to make them more tasty.  As a kid I found one thing in It to be afraid of, now that I'm a parent, I expect to find something else.  Really looking forward to this film, tbh.

The only thing that really concerns me is a matter of run time.  The book is too much for one movie, even if it's 3 jam packed hours.  I kinda hope the new one comes out as two 2-2.5 hour long volumes.  Then the filmmakers might be able to capture enough of the important stuff.

I read the book in 7th grade and watched the movie right afterward.  I'm excited for the idea of a remake less constrained by 1990s TV censorship.  Lettuce be real:  While the book will probably always be the best version, the TV miniseries they made is severely dated and could have been better for as long as it is and an update is just what it needs.  If the remake sucks, it's not like it won't get remade again "done right" by someone else down the line.

On the topic of King horror remakes, a new Pet Sematary  :mitebecool:

I think Pet Semetary is King's most disturbing "monster"...

That story fucks me up on a completely different level. Being a parent now, I can only guess that would make it that much worse to rewatch/reread. The desperation in that tale, fuck...

And my cousin named her kid Gage. :wtfsonic: that kid creeps me out, just because of that.

Yeah man, I haven't read or watched Pet Sematary in ages, but I did catch the South Park parody of it recently, and it made me think about how being a parent now would really give me a parallax view of that tale.  Once you have a kid, you have a new #1 fear that towers over every other concern you've ever had; to read that story as a parent would mean a new level of understanding that I never could've imagined before.  I might just do it to be a masochist.

And lol, I like the name Gage.  But it does have certain associations.

LOL... I feel like we're sounding like Brian in that one Family Guy episode where he finds out he's a father and becomes super overbearing about how the others can't understand how concerned he is about his kid getting hurt/killed or whatever.   (I hope that makes sense)

LOL.  You and I are the only ones to ever know that fear, ever.

Not trying to take this one too far off topic, but it's actually something I think about often.  I have a tendency to get kinda morbid, and fixate on some dark shit.  I probably have about 2 nightmares a month wherein something dreadful happens to my son.  That's been going on for the past 20 months at least, haha.

I guess that's a plus, right?  The person that got cast as Dr. Frank N Furter in the upcoming Rocky Horror Picture Show remake isn't even the same gender or race as Tim Curry. And the new Riff Raff looks like he's going through an emo phase.

It became a lot less scary when you find out what the monster actually is.
