I'm 1/4 through 'Revival' and nothing scary has happened yet.
I read 'Insomnia' and nothing happened for a long time and I feel asleep.

Yeah the weirdness only comes in around page 100 or so
This actually what makes Kings books so creepy. Most of it is just ordinary life. This makes the horror more realistic

The clown in the new film seems cheap and crappy, sounds like a drunk guy from New Jersey; Tim Curry was really good. Even though the first half of the original movie was good, the second half was almost a different film. I wonder if this film will be as long.
How can you say that already?
Perhaps you've seen more than I have, but I don't see how that's any indication of how well or poor the new actor will play Pennywise.
He even said that he's not trying to do better than Tim Curry... He's just trying to make Pennywise awesome on his own terms.
As for Revival, I fucking loved it. It kept getting better page by page

Also, as has been said already, the 1st "film" was a made for TV movie... So they couldn't really do everything they wanted to since it was being broadcasted on over-the-air TV.
Now tthat they don't have that holding them back, I think they're really gonna be able to do a lot with it.
Plus, this will give the current generation the chance to experience the story without having to watch the old one, which may come off as campy or outdated or whatever to them.

Gosh, I hate when people get stuck in "it's not as good as this, so I won't like it". Of course this Pennywise won't be as good as Tim Curry's! But, like you said, take it on it's own terms, and you'll possibly end up with something just as great and incomparable (realistically, probably not- Tim Curry is a don). That's how I got through the Harry Potter film adaptations- I just pretended there was no book and enjoyed them on their own.
I'm stoked to see a new interpretation. It is, IMO, hands down King's most terrifying bad guy. It gets in your head, weaponizes your fears, and manifests a new reality based on what it finds in you. That's pretty intense. Plus, it feeds on children, even molests them to make them more tasty. As a kid I found one thing in It to be afraid of, now that I'm a parent, I expect to find something else. Really looking forward to this film, tbh.
The only thing that really concerns me is a matter of run time. The book is too much for one movie, even if it's 3 jam packed hours. I kinda hope the new one comes out as two 2-2.5 hour long volumes. Then the filmmakers might be able to capture enough of the important stuff.

I read the book in 7th grade and watched the movie right afterward. I'm excited for the idea of a remake less constrained by 1990s TV censorship. Lettuce be real: While the book will probably always be the best version, the TV miniseries they made is severely dated and could have been better for as long as it is and an update is just what it needs. If the remake sucks, it's not like it won't get remade again "done right" by someone else down the line.
On the topic of King horror remakes, a new Pet Sematary

I think Pet Semetary is King's most disturbing "monster"...
That story fucks me up on a completely different level. Being a parent now, I can only guess that would make it that much worse to rewatch/reread. The desperation in that tale, fuck...
And my cousin named her kid Gage. that kid creeps me out, just because of that.

Yeah man, I haven't read or watched Pet Sematary in ages, but I did catch the South Park parody of it recently, and it made me think about how being a parent now would really give me a parallax view of that tale. Once you have a kid, you have a new #1 fear that towers over every other concern you've ever had; to read that story as a parent would mean a new level of understanding that I never could've imagined before. I might just do it to be a masochist.
And lol, I like the name Gage. But it does have certain associations.

Whenever I think of her kid, I get the mental image of an Achilles tendon getting cut through with a scalpel...

LOL... I feel like we're sounding like Brian in that one Family Guy episode where he finds out he's a father and becomes super overbearing about how the others can't understand how concerned he is about his kid getting hurt/killed or whatever. (I hope that makes sense)

LOL. You and I are the only ones to ever know that fear, ever.
Not trying to take this one too far off topic, but it's actually something I think about often. I have a tendency to get kinda morbid, and fixate on some dark shit. I probably have about 2 nightmares a month wherein something dreadful happens to my son. That's been going on for the past 20 months at least, haha.

The dude they cast as the new clown has a similar look/facial structure to Tim Curry.

I guess that's a plus, right? The person that got cast as Dr. Frank N Furter in the upcoming Rocky Horror Picture Show remake isn't even the same gender or race as Tim Curry. And the new Riff Raff looks like he's going through an emo phase.

Pff I have two kids
It became a lot less scary when you find out what the monster actually is.

Think it has anything to do with the types of books you read?
