Panaeolus Cinctulus??!
    #23441335 - 07/14/16 04:45 PM (7 years, 6 months ago)

As i read panaeolus cintulus is supposed to be a very common mushroom and is found in new fertilized fields rotting hay and horse manure (sometimes cow too).
But as i continued researching i found people saying that you wont find any pan cintulus unless you find a rotting compost pile of manure and hay.
Here it rained quite a lot and all the conditions are right but i cant find any.
I looked in rotting hay, manure enriched soils, horse manure and cow manure (but they werent very moist) even in woodchips and deadleaves just to try my luck but no signs of any pan cinctulus.
I found about 30 pan foes (i think, still waiting for the spore print but im pretty sure they are pan foes) in a field but no actives.
I looked everywhere where i can get and there is just no pan cinctulus.
Where should i look (except new lawns) to have the most chance of finding them?
Also what active shroom grows in wild fields in europe (not manure enriched nor fertilized) but just normal field with healthy grass. Because if there is no know one i wouldnt go and search there like i did today with no success.
Thanks for help.

I live quite close to you, if you are still in Hungary. I feel you, Pan. cincts are nowhere to be found here either. I keep looking for them since April: in all type of grass, lawns, in manure and manure piles(cow&horse), but all can I find are Pan. papilionaceus, antillarum, semiovatus, Deconicas or Photostropharia semiglobata. And we had a lot of rain too, but in vain.
I wonder that people consider this species a "very common, widely distributed" mushroom. Funnily, it was much easier to find liberty caps last fall.

Yeah im still in hungary ill be here until 20 august and even after rain and nice humidity and a bunch of different perfecttt substrates even manure with rotten hay but no signs of cinctulus.
I found tons of pan foes today but nothing else.
Do you think i can find liberty caps from now until mid august? Temps got pretry close to 10°C at night with the thunderstorm. But they dont remain so low for long they usually get back to 20-25 after the storm. We have a 3 days storm coming.
How and what kind of area did you find the libs?
Thanks.

Also did you find anything else than those ? I mean any kind of psilocybin containing mushroom.
Because if you found something mkre easily or frequently i could focus on searching it.
Right now my only hope is gymnopilus... gonna need some luck for this :P

Yeah, maybe cincts don't like this part of the world :uhoh:

I found libs last October at about ~900m in the carpathian mountains, on a meadow with grass clumps. I think august is too early, but your best bet is to look at higher altitudes, where it's wetter and colder.
Only active shrooms I found are libs. This year I'm hoping to find Ps. serbica and Gyms.

Im very far from mountains but where i live its like a hill i think maybe 400m altitude and there is a lot of fields but like just normal field with no cows or animals (just wild ones) not just grass there is a lot of other stuff mixed with grass.
There is a cow field but nothing on it i searched on every cow pattie but nothing.
There is a forest where i found mushrooms but no psilocybes i think ill go search for gyms a couple days after rain.
If there was a shroom that would grow just from normal grass with no human disturbance i think ill have the most chance of finding it but cant find info about this.
