King Oysters pinning but aborting (pic)
    #23440917 - 07/14/16 01:35 PM (7 years, 7 months ago)

So one cluster in this tub of mine is actually fully forming, but the rest is pinning like CRAZY and aborting at the same rate lol  HALP

I have them on straw in a modified SGFC. From what I have read it seems they might have too much O2 in this SG. Any comments or suggestions?

King oysters will put out a lot more pins than mature crops.

They need air to fruit out, they pin great with no air but need it to continue. and also they do not grow well on straw at all, I have seen some eryngii grow ok on straw but it is usually super supplemented.
What is this growing method? Is it straw in a monotub type of thing?

Had the same experience twice when growing these. About one year ago I grew them on spent malted grains from a local brewer. The problem I had seemed to be double, I know I had a lack of oxygen in my poorly improvised grow room at the time but probably also a substrate lacking to provide what these mushrooms need.

Another attempt this year on sawdust got me a nice harvest, but quite small sized mushrooms and also many aborted pins. I tried a semi-natural method by having them outside, and I think in this case the humidity was too low for them to develop fully (and they might not have enjoyed some frosty nights).

So yeah just saw what Azur wrote as well, and I definitely noted that each time I grew these too. As long as you get a good harvest along with the aborted pins I suppose there should be no reason to panic. If not, try raising the oxygen levels I would say, to see what happens? And what is the temperature in your SGFC (curious to know how you keep the temp down)?

He does not need to raise humidity, he needs less RH and WAY more FAE, Eryngii will get super funky with excess water which causes blotch and funky fruits with this particular mushroom, also that extra water sitting on those pins ready to grow will make them abort.
With Eryngii, I have my growroom set at 85% RH and no misting, only time I mist Eryngii is just the blocks the day after I harvest and before the second flush starts coming in. Temps have to be between 55-70, but colder the better, I have my room set 58-62. And to also get a good pin set, it needs a week of temps between 50-60 to initiate pinning, then fruit.

My bad I meant to write oxygen not humidity, was still thinking on the second example I just gave myself lol / hence the edit  :whiteflag:

It's all good, I just wanted to make sure he didn't pump up his RH.
