hi everyone, i hope your summer is turning out lovely
so, I was doing some cleaning and found a couple of liquid cultures from hawks eye that i had forgotten about.
They are a little over a year old, and have been stored at room temp. Species are lions mane, shaggy mane, and an oyster. concurrently stored spore syringes have had 0 visibe contams on hundreds of plates so far.
These were originally much different colors, and it would be my guess that they are dead and/or bacteria-ridden, but i wanted to get others' opinions. Should I try them on agar and isolate any myc away from any contams? or any other suggestions? thanks everyone!!

Most likely bad by now. Most people don't store LC's longer than 6 months at the most with refridgeration.

right, my thoughts exactly. I had literally forgotten about these haha..
should i just assume these are bad and throw them away and plan to order some more?
if i have agar to spare is there any way to attempt to save any?

I don't know enough to say one way or the other whether those are still viable, but there's no harm in trying em out put a drop of each onto some plates and see what happens. You'll know what's up with them in a few days..

its not much of a hassle to put em on agar and find out.... I would at least try them.

UPDATE:
so I took a sterile loop and caught some tissue from each of the 3 cultures and did 4 plates for each
in every case, 50% show no growth, and 50% have some myc, what kind is yet to be determined
Here are some pics from today:
Shaggy Mane Plate A
 Plate B
 Lions Mane Plate A
 Plate C
 Blue Oyster Plate A
 Plate D

Obviously the Blue Oyster looks suspect (some kind of sporophore?), but the others might have the right myc, or maybe it will turn out to be the same ugliness lol....
I am not familiar with any of these species besides reading, and they are from the old and brown LCs in OP. Im suprised i am not seeing more bacteria.
Since i havent worked with these species before, i figured i would ask what others think. Is there anything here worth trying to isolate away from contams? or is it all mold? i would be highly surprised and impressed if anything good came out of those old cultures i found in my garage lol
