I got a location that's got Cincs poppin everywhere,
is it likely that the Lib's will grow in the same field, I guess what im asking is, are cinctulus a good sign when it comes to lib habitat? :rasta:

Found more today though the early  patch has finished the first flush.  Interestingly, having surveyed our other local spots they all show up nothing.  I'm more convinced this year that the specimens collected over the years from the spot on the estate are quite different to others in the area which all seem to show up late August through September.

I have photos of all the pickings so far, I'll post them shortly.

If you're waiting on a PM reply don't worry I have taken a number of prints and should have these ready this week for trades/post, if you're interested in a print PM me and I'll work through them in order I can offer prints of the early fruiting spot that seems to start in July through to mid Oct and prints from specimens in my regular spots that tend to fruit later during the regular fungi season in the UK.

I give you the choice of 2 pills.

With each containing one of the following:
Cyanide... Psilocin... Would you take the risk?
Didn't think so.

This is why Positive Identification prior to consumption is important.

Here are some photos of the finds from my favorite spot.  The final dry weight is around 28g  (Plus 10g which wasn't included in the weigh in because I made them into tea  )

Photos 1 and 2 are of the last haul from the lawn the other day, 3 and 4 show them after drying.
Photo 5 with Jake the dog is all the mushrooms found so far this year dried and the last is the dry weight of all the little fellas.

Video of some of the picking which shows a little of the habitat -

Interesting video Repton:cool: They are everywhere. Cute dog too. What kind of observations have you made as to why they fruit so prolifically in that lawn now? There seemed to be a fair bit of wind blowing. Is it very open there? Sorry for all the questions because I won't be finding them where I live unless I'm very lucky.

It's great to see habitat shots on the video.

very nice harvest so soon in the year, thy seem to grow at different times on different places in my experience when was in uk, when was in matlock the people use to tell me that only in October thy find them there and i did find a few during that time, found a great spot at hendon park north london, behind the roll ball( don't know the English word now, like bowling with black white balls, mostly elderly people play) field. was picking like a hundred a day ,this was in 2008.
have read that thy start growing earlier on higher altitude's as the session moves on thy move down into lower valley's.
brought one print back home but didn't seem to have survived the travels.
is there any change anybody will make a swap/trade for a print or two for my spore library, experiments.

a book i once read also said that thy can be found throughout the year if weather is good sure micro climates in certain areas might promote earlier fruiting. awesome hunting these little fellows.

Hey, good questions, these are the things I am trying to figure out also!
As far as observations go all I can think is that the substrate conditions are highly favorable. The lawn was originally home to a cricket pitch and has very fine bladed grass alongside moss and regular lawn grasses, despite being cut regularly the clippings are left on the lawn which seems to play a part in making the libs happy.  Another fact may be the thickness of the turf which is perhaps 2-3 inches and very soft and spongy, with moss helping to store moisture beneath the surface, when the sun has been out the lawn also stores a bit of heat into the evening and is warm and damp to the touch.

The area is quite large and mostly exposed to the elements, though aside from that I really am puzzled.  To let everyone into a little secret, this lawn almost always fruits mid-late July through to the end of September.  It rained here heavily yesterday so I'm looking forward to adding to the supply stores this weekend.

On another note, having ventured out to some other spots at higher elevations there were some finds but nothing matching the old cricket lawn in terms of volume, there are also quite obvious physiological differences between them and the lawn finds.  In the more wild areas the libs tend to have thinner darker coloured stems and less fleshy caps, the lawn produces libs with sturdy almost rubbery feeling thick white stems and chunkier caps, we (my girlfriend and myself) feel the effects from the lawn ones to be very different to that of the varieties I find in the hills and fields in the same area.

Great observations, thank you very much. I imagine if you poked your finger down into the turf it would feel saturated down the bottom. I've only picked a tropical liberty cap but they favoured couch grass over the broad bladed grass.

Guess it's pretty cool temperature wise where you are as well.

awesome observation would have never thought of looking at what type of grass it is and the history of it. the differences between domestic and wild habitats is very interesting, that law and movers giving them some special tlc.

Walked a lot at the weekend - didn't get chance to go to my usual spot but went where I have found many in the past and nothing yet - that is unless somebody has been there before me!

Think it may be a little bit too warm still - although I'm only an hour from you Blazeyy.

Weather looks like it's going to be warm until September at the moment.

Will the amount of rainfall outweigh the heat??

Hello - I'm new to the forum and would like some help with ID:
I found these fresh in my lawn this morning - I have tried to id them on a couple of sites, with unsatisfactory results. Is it possible they are Liberty Caps? Can any of you help?

Many thanks
