Beautiful. I want to grow some next summer when I'm moved out. Yours surely look like they're flourishing. Careful with slitting them though, don't wanna catch the eyes of any good Samaritan... What strain are they btw? I've heard Tasmanians have high morphine content, a higher percentage of codeine would be neat tho.

How is he going to collect his harvest without slitting them?
Beautiful crop, anyway !!

Im pretty sure that the Tasmanian ones are bred to be high in thebaine making it unwise to try the raw latex. They do this because a) its a more efficient use of the plants alkaloids because thebaine can be converted to things like oxycodone. And b) so if the plants escape (as they have) it makes the risk of abuse quite low.

Im also pretty sure that all though scoring may be the standard in the heroin fields of Afghanistan, things are a bit different in the pharmaceutical industry. The dried pods are collected, shredded and processed for their alkaloids. A more efficient process again as all of the latex can be extracted from each plant.
EDIT: Nice lookin plants by the way.

Tasmanians these days are high in thebaine content with signs on fences saying they are, though what they were growing back in the 1990's are high in morphine content - e.g. these are old school Tasmanians sourced from Tas in the mid-1990's.

Alright, im man enough to say that's my bad... but i wasnt talking about yours directly, i was just trying to clear up some confusion so that people didnt think poppies sourced from Tassie now were good for consumption.

I am sure Avrix is rushing to purchase the necessary industrial equipment right now.

Im sure he doesnt have a crop goin and needs tractors and shit.
Just harvest the pods once they ripen, dry them and put them though a food processor... Either do an alcho extraction and evap for crude latex or boil the shredded straw for a while then strain, add calcium hydroxide to precipitate morphine.
Do what ever you want, im just saying there are other ways.

Now you´re just making up BS.
He´ll just slit them - the same as you and I would. And as Afghan farmers have done for centuries.
Nothing more to say here.

You guys are hilarious old vs the new
I also would go with the route you are talking ausdream, simply because organic chemistry and extraction is super fun for me and I really enjoy it. I had no idea it was as simple as a lime wash to do that, I was skeptical but a quick google search brought me to the findings that you are in fact correct.
I know this doesn't quite belong here so if it offends anybody I'm happy to remove it, just was interesting to me calcium hydroxide(pickling lime found at the grocery store) to make the Morphine soluble in cold water and most of the other alkaloids not soluble, filters, and discards the gunk, keeping the calcium morphenate solution. He then reheats the calcium morphenate solution and adds ammonium chloride diluted in distilled water until the PH reaches 9. Then, he cools the solution and filters the morphine freebase from the solution, letting it dry. That will leave you with some nice smokable morphine. You can also take it a step farther and add HCL acid to distilled water, then filter out some of the impurities using activated carbon. This will leave you with morphine HCL.
On the other hand, I know tons of people who do it the old school way and they prefer the sticky opium goo, and more power to em! I'm all about keeping things traditional, and to each their own

Hey, the goo is good too, but like you said the next part is more fun for me
I wasnt trying to step on anyones toes, just letting you know its not all scratch and collect, there were other ways to harvest if you were worried about wandering eyes.
