Pressure cooker ran out of water

Hi,
My pressure cooker ran out of water about 40 minutes in to sterilization at 15 psi. I turned it off and took it off the heat and let it cool.
If the jars are not broke, can I re fill it with water once the pressure has dropped and re start the sterilization? Or will this cause some issues?
Thank you
e; So I read some other threads and it seems like if the metal warps you're supposed to throw the PC out. This is a brand new PC and the metal is not warped. I will check the seal when it de pressurizes.
I also found RR commenting saying that once the psi reaches 15 to turn the stove down to where the PC runs at 14 psi, so I will be doing that next time.

Good news everybody
None of the jars broke and everything looks great. I added some more water than last time and began PCing once more. I'll remember to get the psi up to 15 and turn the stove so it sits at 14.

How much water did you add to begin with? A general rule of thumb for most PCs is 1/2c water per 30mins. So 90mins = 1 1/2cups, 120mins = 2cups. This might vary slightly with stove types, heating techniques, and PC type. Don't turn it on high at first, let it warm up or you will evaporate too much water at the beginning of the PC cycle.

and just because nothing broke, doesn't mean nothing's busted. what were you sterilizing? because unless you were sterilizing pastyplates, they definitely need another run at 90minutes, probably.

BRF cakes. The PC worked fine and everything was sterilized once more.
I covered it just over the shelf that comes with the PC. That's a good rule of thumb to go by thanks.

Sometimes even new gauges are off, go by the rocker/weight. You don't want it shooting out steam like crazy the whole time, just releasing a spirt of steam once or twice a min.

Interesting, thanks. Had the rocker going at a moderate rock, even ended up with water leftover this time.
Although this thread will die I have good news,
Brf cakes were inoculated and I'm very positive infection rate will be low.

Good. Just don't let it happen again. I only had the 1 shot.. Also don't let the rocker rock much, and you'll lose like basically no water.
