Hmmmmm, is that mycelium??? pics

Hey, hows it goin?
Well, my FOAF noticed a growth on his casing that he is not sure about. At first he thought it was mycelium (it is white and fluffy) but it has a different look to it. Check out the pic. Also I read in a book that you can get 2-4 wet pounds of shrooms per square foot, can anyone give a testimony?

It definately looks like green mold to me. Give it time and the spore producing stuctures will give the mold a definate green color.

You need to cut the affected area out ASAP and treat it. You can be advised on about a few hundred different treatments on this site.

In the end, your best treatment is prevention.

Ok, my FOAF just cut out the infected area plus an inch or two around it with a sterilized knife. Then he sprayed and salted where the contaminated area was removed. Will this be ok?

I suggest you to be very generous with salt. I mean, remove the infected area completely, fill with salt and add more salt around the infected area with an additional 3-4 inches radius. Green mold is hard as hell to fight so you better amputate a large part of your casing.

And yes, no doubt about it, that was mold.

Distilled water is the safest but it has no mineral content. Adding a little bit of h2o2 to tap water is also ok.
