How would you choose to die if you could?

Macey's bike thread just got me thinking about it. I reckon a nice quick heart attack after a mind blowing orgasm would be pretty damn sweet, if maybe not so much for your partner...
A quick death riding one of my bikes would definitely be next for me. Followed a close third by the Huxley method:
"LSD, 100 µg, intramuscular"
What about you?

It will only destroy what you are not. --Jac O'keeffe

Not at all
Seriously though, I don't care how it goes down, I just want it to be quick and painless. I am so not down for the whole dying slowly and painfully thing. Also dying alone sounds terrible, I would want to be surrounded by family and loved ones, of which I hope to have many by the time I'm ready to go *crosses fingers because nothing in life is a guarantee*
So in other words, I would like to die fully prepared for death and surrounded by loved ones, but also quickly and painlessly without drama, because I have unrealistic expectations
I'd say that I'd like to die asleep in the arms of my soulmate, but then they would wake up hugging a corpse and that sounds pretty traumatic.
Ok, dying just sounds terrible. I would just not die at all if I had the choice. End of discussion.

I imagined there'd be a few who find the whole topic pretty morbid. I get it. I've spent the last 7-8 years of my life working to come to terms with my eventual death. I don't get the impression many take on the task in their time here.
I think it started after my mum had a brief struggle with cancer. I saw how afraid to go she was and to this day it pains me so much when I see that in her. I'm determined to be ready to face it and know I did the best I could with my time here when my number comes up. Like this:
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride! --Hunter S. Thompson
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home. --Chief Tecumseh
We hate gladiators if they are keen to save their life by any means; we favour them if they openly show contempt for it. You must realize that the same thing applies to us: for often the cause of dying is the fear of it. Dame Fortune, who makes sport with us, says 'Why should I preserve you, base and fearful creature? You will only receive more severe wounds and stabs as you don't know how to offer your throat. But you will both live longer and die more easily, since you receive the blade bravely, without withdrawing your neck and putting your hands in the way. He who fears death will never do anything worthy of a living man. But he who knows that this was the condition laid down for him at the moment of his conception, will live on those therms, and at the same time he will guarantee with a similar strength of mind that no events take him by surprise. For by foreseeing anything that can happen as though it will happen he will soften the onslaught of all his troubles, which present no surprises to those who are ready and waiting fo them, but fall heavily on those who are careless in the expectation that all will be well. --Seneca the younger
-------------------- Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. You would think dying in your sleep is the best way to go and the most peaceful. Plus they say your release DMT when you die so it would probably be a really trippy dream kind of thing. Who knows

How do Wizards die? Do they evanesce to a parallel universe, just vanish without a trace from here? Wipe out Neo Tokyo with me as I evolve into a higher being? Or quite pedestrian, get a garden variety disease and die quietly?
I intend to experience the technological singularity and merge with it, transition from carbon to silicon in my lifetime.

I'd tie a sharp metal cable around my neck and jump inside a mall populated mainly by children and teenagers.
That way some of them would be traumatized by the view of my distorded body and i'll live on in their nightmares.
They will also grab a few photos with snapchat or instagram and tag me #feelingfeisty #gracefulneck.
My other way to die would be to catch ebola in Africa then travel back to New York or something to attend a huge event like the superbowl where i'd mix my foul contaminated fluids into the drinks i serve to the customers at the deli.

So that my death would benefit others, truly benefit others, that they would become something greater from my death, or gain some important knowledge/wisdom from it, that others would see their value, that others would see they're loved, if my death could bring that about, then so be it, that would be a good death.
How that would come about, I don't know, but I am ready for it when it does come, it's only death, and not to be feared.

A B83 set to the full 1.2 megatons going off directly overhead

Carnivore - Ground Zero Brooklyn
Home watching Star Trek Everythings okay Little do I know Soviet missiles are on the way
The bastards set loose The wardogs Tyr and Loki Weathermans predicting rain But fire itll be
Minutemen launching Air-sirens haunting Warheads detonating Cremating
Im living at Ground Zero Im dying at Ground Zero Im burning at Ground Zero Im frying at Ground Zero
From my bed, I hear the sirens Screaming of foreboding Populous escaping Highways overloading
Bridge is down tunnels flooded Only got six minutes Head between my legs I kiss my balls goodbye Theyre finished
Mxs blasting Skyscrapers crashing Fallout, liberated Were wasted
Im living at Ground Zero Im dying at Ground Zero Im burning at Ground Zero Im frying at Ground Zero
Jesus, I beg of thee Dont take my life Return me to the womb From which I was torn
Birth is a sin And the punishment is death I wish you had left me unborn
I shit my pants as I wait for the reaper Lie in fetal position Tears stream down my cheeks As I call out for my mother Say an act of contrition
Well fight this war with germs and atoms Destroy our only home Our mutated descendants battle the next With sticks and stones
Are we not savages Innately destined to maim and kill? Blame it on the environment Heredity or evolution, were still responsible
Our intelligence may progress At geometric rates Yet socially we remain Belligerent neonates

a while back someone killed themself at a mall where I used to live by jumping from one of the top floors. people, children, and whoever else saw it happen. my friend was supposedly at the mall that day when it happened.
if I had to die i'd die old, after I've accomplished all of my dreams. preferably in my sleep after fucking some young hottie with big tits.

Nah but for real tho I firmly believe that the moment we actually die our brains release a fuckton of DMT all at once and we are simply crushed into oblivion by the weightless mass of all existence concentrated into a single mass of energy in our pineal gland
Think of it kinda like a nuclear meltdown

It just seems to make sense to me, speaking from an entirely solitary standpoint
I've witnessed the power that DMT holds with my very own eyes, and my inner feelings have led me to believe that DMT is an integral part of our sentient minds, it is within us, part of us in ways that we will never truly understand
Furthermore I have personally noticed that as I smoke DMT and get closer to the peak I can actually feel my mind letting go, dying in some strange inexplicable way
The feeling of doing DMT to me will always be associated with the feeling of imminent death and it is for that reason that I believe DMT plays a key role in our actual, physical deaths

I always thought that would be a good way to die. Fighting, too much adrenaline to feel alot of pain, still concoius so you could experience death fully, your final act is brave and selfless, quick so theres not too much anticipation or panic.

I would want to consciously leave my body in a state of samadhi or deep meditation.
Other than that, maybe being like 80 years old and jumping out of a plane but the parachute doesn't work...
or going out in a sword fight after training with the samurai and riding into battle like Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai.

well, the body might react so quickly that as soon as the person fires the bullet, and your higher senses notice the pressure drop of the incoming projectile, DMT would be released, you would 'leave your body' and have a brief moment of the traditional DMT experience.
I've heard that when people get shot, they often see themselves from an out of body perspective.

Well in that case it would be instantaneous, BOOM out like a light, you wouldn't even know you were dead
But I think most deaths probably don't go down like that and I also think that would probably be the best way to go, because what death really is is a release from suffering.. death is the final destination, being swallowed by the vastness of eternity and ending all thoughts and emotions forevermore.. That is true death, the abscence of life

I have, in fact I have had an epic one myself. Although I woke up afterwards face down on the rug behind me with no memory of it, I didn't feel close to death. Although death of reputation and/or consciousness may well have been at play...

I can see your pov. Didn't mean to come across that way and make you cringe. There are reasons I feel that way. Not trying to climb onto a high horse.

I'd wanna go out, like, exorcist style. Speaking all types of weird shit, and acting crazy.
Just scare the hell out of people.
Or I'd do it in front of a lot of people, and yell something really weird right before I did it just to mess with all the people that witnessed it.
Like, just go in front a of a group of people with a gun and be like, "WHO FUCKING FARTED?!?! BOOOOM!!!"
How confused would those people be for the rest of their lives???...

Heroin
But my family would be in pieces I'd probably write up a note saying that I was ready to pass and this was the way I wanted to go.
This is far, far down the line. It would essentially be euthanasia. But I do think heroin is the most peaceful way to go and ensure you do so on your account.

I would be fighting off zombies as my family escaped. Then I would get eaten. And luckily they wouldn't have to pay for a funeral. Bc that's expensive.
I have dreams where I die alot and that's the best way. Unless I just die in old age. The worst would be drowning or getting my leg stuck in a bear trap and bleeding out.

Will be using a shotgun to euthanize myself, inside the mouth to prevent twitching and blowing the jaw out instead. If your guns clean, it should be a failproof method, instant and painless. The angle should be towards the brain-stem, past the soft-palate... though I imagine you cannot miss.
Anyways, ideally this will be like 50 years from now. When disease and old age take their toll, I'll go out in the woods, meditate and pull the trigger.

I was just admiring this one whilst drinking my morning coffee. I was imagining thinking 'what's that whistling sound?' about 0.2 seconds before my head exploded...
Yeah actually, the bullet travels faster than sound. So the most you can witness from a being shot by a sniper is a 0.2 second muzzle flash. you will hear nothing even if he's 6 feet away from you. So back of the head. You're just walking and then fade to black

Good point. I guess I feel an urge to stare death in the face before it takes me.
As an aside, that Monty Python vid SR posted was great.

Same, this is one reason I want to end it myself.
Ideally I would have a few weeks of constant meditation and performance in solitude, out in nature, before ending it...
I just spent a few minutes trying to find the quote for you from the Tibetan book of Living and Dying, but am at a loss. Anyways, the idea concerns transitioning into the bardos in full consciousness, and the importance of the moment of death.
Quote:
The teachings make it clear that if all we know of mind is the aspect of mind that dissolves when we die, we will be left with no idea of what continues, no knowledge of the new dimension of the deeper reality of the nature of mind. So it is vital for us all to familiarize ourselves with the nature of mind while we are still alive. Only then will we be prepared when it reveals itself spontaneously and powerfully at the moment of death; be able to recognize it "as naturally," the teachings say, "as a child running into its mother's lap"; and by remaining in that state, finally be liberated
The above quote goes hand in hand with that point... transitioning willfully, rather than being swept away in the storm.
The Tibetan book of Living and Dying, is a good book, highly recommend. Can link

Give this book a read if you get the chance. The person who wrote it committed suicide within a few hours of releasing it to the public. Very interesting read. The man seemed to be completely at peace with his decision. I started reading it out of curiosity about 7 or 8 months ago, and read it all the way through. Guy has some interesting thoughts at least, and left them for others before he went.

Thanks PKn; the opening quote has me hooked already:
Ordinary people seem not to realize that those who really apply themselves in the right way to philosophy are directly and of their own accord preparing themselves for dying and death. If this is true, and they have actually been looking forward to death all their lives, it would of course be absurd to be troubled when the thing comes for which they have so long been preparing and looking forward. —Sorates

I have no positive (or negative for that matter)-suicidal tendencies myself, but the idea is an interesting one. If I had to choose how to go out, I would probably want it to be struggling for life at least. I want to know that I'm going to die rather than just turning off for good by random happenstance.
I'd rather be shot somewhere other than the head I suppose, not instant. Rather get to spend some time at the hospital after a car crash before going, you know?. If I have a couple minutes to make peace with dying, it'd be worth more to me than a painless death by far.

That's all I ask. Not even minutes in fact; a few seconds of reflection before I go would be enough I reckon.

I'm going to have to reread it too myself now. Very good book. It's collecting dust right now on my shelf.
I just had a wave of morbid death scenarios and thought now sitting here peeing on the toilet. That could coincidently happen as well. Dying on the toilet like Elvis. *shudder*

I've never read the Tibetan Book of the Dead, but seems like an interesting read.
Anyone seen Enter the Void? Interesting (albeit long and depressing) movie. They mention the book in one of the earlier scenes, and seem to take some inspiration from it throughout the movie. Not sure how much they take from the book or not though having never read it myself.

MXE OD would be fucking awful dude... Even slight MXE overdoses, like say 150mg at once to someone with no tolerance, can be very dysphoric, and that's nowhere near the LD50, which is in the grams range.
Kholing in a bath tub (and drowning) is a different story. That could be a very interesting way to go...

Haven't watched it yet. Was on my list for years tho and I could easily access it on Netflix I believe. I was listening to it as it played tho in the background. Sounded too heavy at the time, or I'm just assuming so.

Opiate aND benzo OD. I've always thought that would be the most comfy way to go. Not to be morbid, but when it comes that time, that's prolly how I'll go. Shit, kick me out of an airplane after I finish banging that lethal shot... just to make it more exciting.

Yeah that would be pretty fucking crazy especially if I was loaded enough not to be freaked the fuck out by the free fall
