Silent, still, standing alone, unchanging,
All-pervading, unfailing,
I do not know its name; I call it tao.

Great (ta). Being great, it flows out;
Flowing out means far-reaching;
Being far-reaching, it is said to return.

I would be fighting off zombies as my family escaped. Then I would get eaten. And luckily they wouldn't have to pay for a funeral. Bc that's expensive.

I have dreams where I die alot and that's the best way. Unless I just die in old age. The worst would be drowning or getting my leg stuck in a bear trap and bleeding out.

Will be using a shotgun to euthanize myself, inside the mouth to prevent twitching and blowing the jaw out instead. If your guns clean, it should be a failproof method, instant and painless. The angle should be towards the brain-stem, past the soft-palate... though I imagine you cannot miss.

Anyways, ideally this will be like 50 years from now.
When disease and old age take their toll, I'll go out in the woods, meditate and pull the trigger.

I was just admiring this one whilst drinking my morning coffee. I was imagining thinking 'what's that whistling sound?' about 0.2 seconds before my head exploded...

Yeah actually, the bullet travels faster than sound. So the most you can witness from a being shot by a sniper is a 0.2 second muzzle flash. you will hear nothing even if he's 6 feet away from you. So back of the head. You're just walking and then fade to black

Good point. I guess I feel an urge to stare death in the face before it takes me.

As an aside, that Monty Python vid SR posted was great.

Same, this is one reason I want to end it myself.

Ideally I would have a few weeks of constant meditation and performance in solitude, out in nature, before ending it...

I just spent a few minutes trying to find the quote for you from the Tibetan book of Living and Dying, but am at a loss. Anyways, the idea concerns transitioning into the bardos in full consciousness, and the importance of the moment of death.

Quote:

The teachings make it clear that if all we know of mind is the aspect of mind that dissolves when we die, we will be left with no idea of what continues, no knowledge of the new dimension of the deeper reality of the nature of mind. So it is vital for us all to familiarize ourselves with the nature of mind while we are still alive. Only then will we be prepared when it reveals itself spontaneously and powerfully at the moment of death; be able to recognize it "as naturally," the teachings say, "as a child running into its mother's lap"; and by remaining in that state, finally be liberated

The above quote goes hand in hand with that point... transitioning willfully, rather than being swept away in the storm.

The Tibetan book of Living and Dying, is a good book, highly recommend. Can :pm: link

Give this book a read if you get the chance. The person who wrote it committed suicide within a few hours of releasing it to the public. Very interesting read. The man seemed to be completely at peace with his decision. I started reading it out of curiosity about 7 or 8 months ago, and read it all the way through. Guy has some interesting thoughts at least, and left them for others before he went.

Thanks PKn; the opening quote has me hooked already:

Ordinary people seem not to realize that those who really apply themselves in the right way to philosophy are directly and of their own accord preparing themselves for dying and death. If this is true, and they have actually been looking forward to death all their lives, it would of course be absurd to be troubled when the thing comes for which they have so long been preparing and looking forward.

Either natural causes, or a MXE overdose

Maybe free falling

I have no positive (or negative for that matter)-suicidal tendencies myself, but the idea is an interesting one. If I had to choose how to go out, I would probably want it to be struggling for life at least. I want to know that I'm going to die rather than just turning off for good by random happenstance.

I'd rather be shot somewhere other than the head I suppose, not instant. Rather get to spend some time at the hospital after a car crash before going, you know?. If I have a couple minutes to make peace with dying, it'd be worth more to me than a painless death by far.

That's all I ask. Not even minutes in fact; a few seconds of reflection before I go would be enough I reckon.

I'm going to have to reread it too myself now. Very good book. It's collecting dust right now on my shelf.

I just had a wave of morbid death scenarios and thought now sitting here peeing on the toilet. That could coincidently happen as well. Dying on the toilet like Elvis. *shudder*

I've never read the Tibetan Book of the Dead, but seems like an interesting read.

Anyone seen Enter the Void? Interesting (albeit long and depressing) movie. They mention the book in one of the earlier scenes, and seem to take some inspiration from it throughout the movie. Not sure how much they take from the book or not though having never read it myself.

MXE OD would be fucking awful dude... Even slight MXE overdoses, like say 150mg at once to someone with no tolerance, can be very dysphoric, and that's nowhere near the LD50, which is in the grams range.

Kholing in a bath tub (and drowning) is a different story. That could be a very interesting way to go...

Haven't watched it yet. Was on my list for years tho and I could easily access it on Netflix I believe. I was listening to it as it played tho in the background. Sounded too heavy at the time, or I'm just assuming so.
