The most lucrative deal in sports history.
Dana White bought the UFC in 2001 for 2 million dollars.... Sold it for 4 billon. A nice little profit of 3.998 billion dollars.
Not bad for 15 years of work right?

In 2001, 2 million was worth about the same as 50 billion now.

Pretty sure White only has like a 6-7 percent stake. He's the president, but not the owner.
A nice profit for sure.

Why are the fight purses in the UFC so low? I just read that Lesnar is about to set the record the record for a fight purse. 2 and a half mil. Yeah pretty damn good money on the surface, but compared to boxing, 2 and a half mil ain't shit.
It would take Lesnar like literally 50 fights in a row, all at 2.5 million per, to get what Pacquiao got in his one fight with Floyd Mayweather. And Pacquiao still didn't even come close to what Floyd got in that fight. Miguel Cotto netted 30 mil in his fight last year with Canelo Alvarez.
Hell there are boxers today who get upwards of 5 million for non-pay per view fights just televised on regular subscription HBO.
If I was an upper tier UFC fighter, and I saw this 4 billion dollar deal, I'd be perplexed by these low purse numbers.

Don't their high profile fighters have any negotiating leverage? I mean you'd think the answer would be yes. The people who go to the fights and pay at the gate pay to see the fighters. The people at home who order the pay per view streams pay to see the fighters. Nobody is paying to see Dana White or the UFC executives.
4 billion dollars...and your record purse for the sport is a measly 2.5 mil?

Rebok deal fucked the fighters big time. Plus the way boxing is set up allows fighters to make big money if theyre at the top. What it comes down to is floyd mayweather is his own company and hes the only employee

I thought Pac man and mayweather went 60/40 on their match.

Maybe easier said than done but why aren't any top UFC draws going this route? So they're locked into a contract of some kind?
But even if, we've seen pro athletes in every major sport that I can think of (I can remember this occurring in the NFL, NBA, and NHL) strike to get better deals...the UFC, as evidenced by this 4 billion dollar deal, are worth an absolute ton of cash.
And they're only seeing a tiny fraction of it. Dana White probably has more loose change in between his couch cushions than his roster of fighters have combined.

I think they did. Floyd got the 60. I think he (Floyd) did like 180 some mil on that fight, with Pac getting 120.

Amazing by the way...they basically divided up 300 some odd million dollars on what amounted to a glorified light sparring session. Well that's what happens when you wait five, six years to actually make the fight and the two are at the end of their careers, smh.
What a travesty that "fight" was.

the UFC sued my buddy for playing a UFC fight at his place of business, that he paid for, completely free. They claimed he was profiting off the fight. It was literally for friends and family. Getting people in the doors wouldnt have even made him anymore money. Found out UFC has people that go around looking for people to sue like that. Realized what a bunch of cunts the organization was, so im not surprised they jew their fighters either.

Some fighters have tried,
Fedor arguably the best heavyweight fighter ever, stayed outside the UFC and had some UFC fighters defect just to fight him. He had some success but the bottom line is UFC has a strong monopoly on big name fighters and you'll eventually run out of interesting match ups if you stay on the outside. And as bad as it is, UFC pays more than lower level promotions.

That's the truth! One of my training partners went 14-0 as an amateur and is so far 4-0 as a pro. His last match paid 400 to show, 700 to win.
Niffla- no I sure didn't but that guy is a great boxer! I love how he hit his opponent in the cup when the ref wasn't calling low blows!

they settled for a couple grand. The UFC has a reputation for filing suit against people who cant afford to defend themselves. They just cast a far and wide net and hope to catch as many fish as possible.
