you asked, I answered. some folks are way over the top nutters about it
Quote:
You can say what you want about your constitution and our charter of rights and freedoms (and the bill of rights), but I see the unlawful and corrupt behaviour of your government agencies and police forces. Of course, corruption can be found anywhere, even here, but up here, our rights are well protected and you'll never convince me that we aren't one of the most free countries in the world.
I expressed that there is corruption even in the highest levels of government, in fact the higher the position the more corrupt it tends to be but the reality is, if canadian cops want to search your shit, you have no real recourse. in the US it's different, you cant really stop them from doing so but after it's done, anything found can easily be tossed from evidence in court and it's no difficult task to sue and win in a lawsuit on violation of rights. people have made millions because a cop has overstepped their bounds
Quote:
Like I said, our rules and policies seem to work pretty well for us. But you offered good insight as to why this might be.
that's what matters, the thing with the US, for us those policies wont work and when people try to force those policies we have a means of resisting
Quote:
Perhaps I don't understand the American culture like I thought I did.
most people dont and because of the way the media portrays things, the way we have a large division on political views and of course nosy foreigners trying to dictate how america should be and fabricating their own versions of what we are, it clouds what you'll see anyway
Quote:
Us Canadians, and the majority of the world, have a tough time swallowing American "gunz blazing" patriotism, so forgive me if yours puts me on edge. Perhaps that cultural difference we spoke of is at play here
in these discussion koods loves to toss around how other countries have enacted gun control and they're just fine, the problem is, he and most other gun control advocates dont look at all the facts such as the countries that have done so, for most it hasnt turned out so well in the past and in the present, maybe for a short period things seem to improve but it doesnt take long for shit to break down. most latin american countries have banned or heavily restricted guns and they;ve seen things such as death squads in honduras, guatemala, nicaragua, nearly all of them have some of the worst corruption on every level of government where political opposition is imprisoned, a few bucks to a street cop can get someone you dislike jailed or even killed, it can also get you out of trouble, or wirse yet, get real bad guys out of trouble and these conditions create a climate in which drug cartels can thrive and hold as much power over the people as the government does, this creates very dangerous conditions for the citizens that would like to live in peace
his response to this is "this doesnt happen in civilized nations", the problem is, it has happened everywhere in the world, even canada has a long history of oppressing those that are weak and unarmed, the US is well known for it, most countries in europe are known for it, we're even seeing the start of this kind of thing with germany wanting to boot greece from the EU and the anger at the UK for wanting to exit the EU, we see it with the influx of these refugees and the governemnts in europe telling their citizens to just shut the fuck up and telling them that their experiences arent happening. so yeah, it's happening in civilized countries, it's small and subtle things now but how will it progress

I dunno I own a. 22 to randomly shoot as guns are fun and plan on doing some was it hunting this fall.
I've never owned a gun specifically for home defense or concealed carry type shit. Don't really care to nor ever will. I don't need a deadly weapon on me at all times "just in case". And ive been to some very sketchy places in my day.

Why would you kill a bag guy with a gun?
The bag men are the lowliest of lows, what have they ever done to you?!
The choice has always been clear, it was you who does not understand its significance.

He's just trying to put his daughter through college. One bag at a time. That's ice cold.

Good post.
I disagree that you have more rights than us tho. Do you have any concrete court cases you could share to shed light on this?
"The sum effect is that both constitutions provide comparable protection of many rights.[29] Fundamental justice (in section 7 of the Canadian Charter) is therefore interpreted to include more legal protections than due process, which is its US equivalent. Freedom of expression in section 2 also has a more wide-ranging scope than the First Amendment to the United States Constitution's freedom of speech"
