It could be a turkey tail, but I'm not good at identifying brackets.

It is a lot more rubbery feeling than turkey tail. It is growing from the ground, no wood that I know if.

That's a beautiful little maitake. It will likely get much bigger but I prefer to harvest them when they are 12" or less for best taste. I would say there's an oak stump underground there.

Cool, first time finding that one. There are a few around, some younger, I am going to go harvest some. You are sure of the ID right? Any tips on cooking?

I'm sure it's a maitake, but if you want to wait for a TI I totally understand.

I like to cut mine up like a thin steak and grill it. They also hold up really well in soups.

Cool. I'm not too worried since I am pretty sure there aren't any deadly polypores. Looks exactly like all of the 'Hen of the Woods' pictures that I see.

I already harvested some and it is in my fridge, I'll probably prepare it in the next couple of day.
