Mushroom ID big and yellow
    #23430087 - 07/10/16 06:47 PM (7 years, 7 months ago)

Hey all! So today was my first time out this year with a friend in upstate NY. Its been wicked dry so slim pickings, did find a bunch of Reishi but they looked kinda old so we decided to come back to them if we couldnt find better.
Of course the sun went down and we couldn't find it again

But this guy... my buddy has it right now so Im afraid I cant give you much info other than it was growing off downed thick sticks/logs at the base of a tree. Might be a little more yellow than the photo in real life, and this weighs about 10lbs... its quite large, dinner plate size fruits and heavy

Is this something tastey, or not so edible  ?

Thanks!

No black stains after 20 minutes of being damaged, right?

Not that I could see, no. Thank you for the ID!!  Have you eaten these before?

I have a question about Reshi. Do you not want old specimens? Ones that are definetly old, but not rotting and full of bugs.

When its it choice to harvest, and when is it too old to be worth taking?

Thanks!

I've never found Bondarzewia berkeleyi.  I'd eat it if I found a fresh one.

Old reishi gets yucky, full of mold and bacteria.
