Pinning or Contamination?

Hi all,
Four weeks ago I began my first grow of golden teacher on a mix of rye flour and vermiculite. They all seem to have colonised well (apart from one slow jar which was made up of spare substrate and a tiny spore dose, so I consider it a bonus if anything comes)
Yesterday (10th July) I birthed the cakes to find two jars had lumpy, brain-like formations. I'm cautious as it could be contamination but it possibly could be some early, aggressive pinning. I just don't have the experience to differentiate.
Anybody able to say what's going on here?

I'm not sure what that is, but I think a lot of people are going to tell you your fruiting chamber needs an upgrade badly.

So it sounds like you didn't follow a tek.

You're right. You'll be very lucky to see anything from those. Extremely bacterial, some even look to be molding

Thanks Bunji fungi, it is a bit crude at the moment (will upgrade after my first shot) but what's not pictured in the photo is a heated, translucent fermentation bucket so there is more to it than the photo at least.
I just had to search about overlay, hadn't heard of that before - the humidity was definitely consistently high, and temperature readings have been stable, there is a chance of stagnating air I guess...
I'll keep an eye on it over the

That is not overlay. Forget you ever heard that term.

This is not reassuring.

Four letters, SGFC. Another four that may help are UTSF. Look for recent info from TCs on growing, use the search filter.
Your cakes look like they may have been alright before you doomed them in that FC.

You're suggesting a mono for cakes!!??

I'm definitely advising to go straight to bulk. Doing cake grows is more trouble than it's worth imo Save yourself the stress and step up your game OP

i think cakes are fun, and fine. as long as you do it right..... which lots of people dont.
i will be inocing WBS soon to begin my bulk adventure, but i really do like cakes. =p
those are gross, though. that stuff on top is mold, right? If so, then since you said they were there when you birthed them, then the FC(or lack of) had nothing to do with it. It was bacterial/contm'd from inoculation or something.

Word! That's how I started right off the bat. Agar, grain, CVG, mono. Couldn't have imagined it any other way
