Jeremy Corbyn of the UK Labor Party * 2
    #23430776 - 07/10/16 10:57 PM (7 years, 6 months ago)

So, for all of the Bernie supporters who are currently feeling disenfranchised, you may find the current unfolding of Jeremy Corbyn's political story to be quite uplifting.

Jeremy Corbyn (often referred to as the "British Bernie Sanders") is a very strong leftist candidate. Like Bernie Sanders, he is a gruff old man, and he holds views that are unconventionally left wing. Corbyn is actually much more of a hard leftist than Bernie Sanders, and it appears has a strong shot at becoming the next prime minister of the UK. His labour campaign literally doubled the size of Labour Party membership in the UK, and like Sanders, he has been very well received by millennials.

Corbyn advocates policies such as the nationalization of public utilities, and the railway system. Until "Brexit", EU law will unfortunately make it difficult for a country to undertake such a task, as there are requirements to permit competition for these services. Corbyn also advocates government policies which encourage worker cooperative initiatives. One example is the policy of government forcing any company that wishes to leave the country to allow the workers an opportunity to purchase the company first. The government would assist the workers by providing them low interest loans to make this more feasible.

Corbyn is now the leader of the Labour Party. Officials in the party has lashed out against him, and recently there was coupe, in which other Labour members of parliament attempted (this is ongoing) to oust him. They wish to replace him with a relatively unknown and unpopular woman named Angela Eagle, as their candidate for the next Prime Minister.

What we are seeing is somewhat reminiscent of what is going on in the United States, but through a variety of circumstances Corbyn appears to be shaking things up in a great way in the UK. It would appear that he may very well be the next Prime Minister.

I think you fellas will find what is going on with all of this quite interesting, as I have.

Definitely rooting for Corbyn, hopefully the brexit disaster will open some eyes of the disillusioned left.

Do you really consider Brett to be a disaster?.. I think it could go either way. In my mind it is just symbolic of the discontent for the political establishment in the UK, and in general.

Corbyns no different to all the rest. Euro-skeptic for the whole of his political life, only to come out in favor of Remain, the status quo and a middle finger, high in the air to the British working classes at the last minuet.

He personally voted to leave the EU in the first British EU referendum in 1975!

His attempts to back track on his positions in this referendum, urging people to vote to stay, have effectively undermined the traditional working class Labour voter and i think you'll find that a very large majority of Labour voters will and all ready have, been lost to UKIP.

Do you have any info on how you came to the conclusion he could be the next PM? Because from where i'm standing, quite the opposite looks to be the reality!

Ecstatic doesn't really have a clue when it comes to the EU. He fails to realize that the majority of national governments in Europe are center right

If any thing, a true left wing government in Britain would do far better out side of the EU, than it would within it!

Oh, really? UK itself is way farther to the left than the US, and most of the rest of Europe is farther left than the UK.

Like i said, you don't have a clue what you're talking about! Less than a third of the 503 million strong population of Europe are currently led by a left wing national government. All of whom are center left!

Your idea of left and right is skewed because of how much further left the entire continent is compared to America.

Hell, if we tried to implement the NHS in the US, I cant even imagine the backlash.

I guess, if you look at it from the perspective of a socialist health care system, but that's pretty much where it ends!

I'm guessing the US still provides every thing else the UK government does, for it's citizens?

Why do I think Corbyn might be the next Prime Minister? Why do you think he can't be? He has doubled party membership in the labor party.  Corbyn is hugely popular, do you deny that? Maybe your right wing bias prevents you from acknowledging that. I happen to be a big fan of George Galloway also  You need to get him back into politics!

I might add that perhaps the reason Corbyn has changed his mind on the Brexit issue, is because he doesn't want to be the one handling the fallout, whilst also being at odds with both parties. From what I've heard, this may be the straw that breaks the camel's back, causing Ireland and Scotland to succeed from the UK. I don't claim to be the authority on all of this, that is just what I understand at this point.

I don't deny that Corbyn has increased party membership, but doubling party members and obtaining the votes needed to win a general election, are two completely different things. Party members don't win elections!

As you've already stated, the majority of his own party are trying oust him!

The majority of Labour are far more centralized politically than Corbyn him self. The pressure put on him by the party to back the EU, is probably one of the main factors contributing toward his last minuet Remain stance. The reality is on this issue, he sold out.

Why do you Americans keep pontificating rubbish about the UK?  Hardly any of you have ever been outside the United States, very few of you even have a passport.

Corbyn is certainly NOT popular - and he fails to portray himself at all well.  He is a scruffy, grumpy old geezer who performs very poorly in parliament, where David Cameron runs rings round him. In the EU referendum his enthusiasm for Remain appeared very lukewarm, although it was his party´s declared position, and he refused to appear on the same platform as Cameron and lend support to their joint cause.

His own MPs have passed a huge vote of no confidence in him - however he has not shown the grace to do the decent thing, and insists on clinging on as an unpopular leader.  He does, however, have the support of the loony left, and if he does stand in a leadership election the unions mass vote will probably see him in again.  Not good for his party and very bad for my country - but he is too mule headed to see this.

You are a conservative, I take it? I have every right to 'pontificate' about British politics, and I don't see anything wrong with taking an interest in foreign affairs. Do you? I see plenty of people from the UK going off about American politics on these forums.

Was Corbyn not Democratically elected? What am I missing here?

Ever been to Britain?  Ever seen Corbyn´s dismal performances in the House of Commons?  You have no real knowledge or experience of what you are lecturing us all about.

Perhaps I should react as aggressively as Americans do when a foreigner tries to lecture them on their stupid gun laws.

On BBC TV right now - Andrew Neil presenting - Labour Party ´supporters´ (who paid 3 UKP and could vote last year) can vote in the Leadership election if they rejoin as ´Full Members´ this year and now pay 25 UKP.

Maybe a bit greedy??

Ever been to Britain? What kind of question is that? I have the fucking internet dude! Maybe you've heard of it. I have seen Corbyn "perform", and I don't exactly know where you guys get this idea that a politician must also be a showman. I find your PMQ sessions to be utterly childish, especially considering Cameron can't even answer Corbyn's questions. From my perspective, Corbyn appears to be the only respectable person out of the whole lot. We have plenty of showmen here in America and they make the worst of politicians. A wink and a smile doesn't make good policy.

The fact that Cameron has a slew of jokers laughing at Corbyn, does not make him intelligent, or his points clever/relevant. You probably think this guy is a killer rapper too:

I actually generally have a very respectful attitude toward the input of foreigners, and I appreciate the fact that they give a shit about our politics. You are being a downright rude prick, and it really isn't necessary. I don't pretend to know everything about British politics, but Corbyn has sparked my interest.

I really find it comical that you Europeans act so superior, and worldly, for your supposed knowledge on foreign affairs, yet criticize Americans for taking an interest.

So, as far as I am concerned, you can go fuck yourself, sir.

YES you have EVERY right to PONTIFICATE about a country you have NEVER visited and of which you KNOW NOTHING.

I am a UK citizen, born in London, and consider myself to have EVERY right to tell you when you are talking out of your rectum -  which would appear to be most of the time.

Incidentally I saw your big hero Corbyn get on his feet during PMQs yesterday to be BOOED by his own party members.

Well, considering that 33% of Americans cannot point out the US on a world map, that comment hardly impresses me.

And I have not sworn at you, so I would prefer that you at least pretend to be a gentleman and not use abusive language to me.

How in the fuck are your faulty "statistics" relevant to any of this? Given what little it takes to impress you (ie, jeers from one party or the other, rather than substantive criticisms), I'm truly quite surprised.

I have used the appropriate language. As far as your statement about 33% of Americans, you sir, are speaking out of your rectum.

A populist politician not being supported by their party isn't anything new. Apparently you're easily distracted by schoolyard bullshit. I suppose you think Mrs Eagle is a more appropriate party leader? Lol! Yeah, I'm sure she'll bring in the vote!

You're honestly quite audacious to be calling me "abusive". You haven't even pretended to be a "gentleman" since you made the poor decision to make that first post on this thread.

Tens of thousands of union members have been barred from voting in Labour’s closely fought leader’s election, party sources have confirmed.

It would appear that the left in both the UK, and here in America, don't want inclusive parties, and have little regard for democracy. It's funny, because they know that the populist candidate will garner more support, if voters are given the opportunity to have their say in the matter. If all 50 states had open primaries, Sanders would have won in a LANDSLIDE, and gone on to be president, undoubtedly. From where I am sitting now, I see a possibility of a Trump presidency.
