So my perfectly colonized cakes... Knocked them out of their jars, water chilled for 12 hours, rolled in *PERLITE* and into the fruiting chamber. Dammit. I see now (a week later) that I should have rolled in vermiculite. Not perlite. So now the cakes are starting to fruit. Should I just leave them alone, and then rinse and roll in verm after the first flush? I'm just wondering what sort of impact will be made due to my screw up.
Thanks in advance.

Leave them be, they'll be OK. After the first flush re-roll in vermiculite. Perlite generally wicks moisture, where vermiculite holds it. If you keep your humidity up it will turn out fine.

Excellent! Thank you for the reply. I'll keep up on misting and roll in verm before flush 2. This is my first time around the block. Glad I didn't mess up THAT bad.

Yeah, they'll be fine. I've seen some people argue not to roll on any flush after the first and just dunk, but considering the current situation, it might be worth it to rinse, dunk, and roll. The people that have dunked on subsequent flushes have argued that you should oven pastuerize prior to the roll.
I dunked on my second roll without out doing anything special just because I knew that it was fully colonized and would probably be okay. I'm not sure where the opinions come from of what I previously said, but maybe there's something that supports the claims?
Good luck. I'm sure you'll be fine

well the idea is that contams/bacteria that may be on the outside surface from fruiting in open air could get a foothold in the verm from the second roll. at least thats how i think i understood it. i find no need to roll a second time, anyways.
as for your current situation.. i honestly dont know, man. i have seen people do this before(one on purpose ), and they still got a few mushrooms, but not very many. and i think lots aborted.
Maybe try to scrape some of it off, gently. also, the myc will probably try to colonize the perlite a little, i think.
But, i really dont know. wait for a TC or other more experienced grower to weigh in.
