Camp Bisco solo. Thoughts?

So I live in rural PA, bad place to grow up different. Ridiculed my whole life for everything from the way I dress to not being racist (dead serious). This has left me a 29 year old psychonaut who is, at the very least, socially phobic if not downright misanthropic. I have totally forgotten how to interact with anyone other than the few preppy/blue collar friends who I've known my whole life. I've been single for the better part of a decade. I am starved for social interaction with people who have at least some small bit in common with me, even if that is nothing more than pride in their individuality. Something's gotta give....
I was looking at the concert lineup at local areas earlier this year and found a few (really obscure) artists that I like to be playing at Camp Bisco. Montage Mtn is only about 20mins from me. It occurred to me that, as a counter-culture type, it seems downright criminal that I've never attended a music festival before. I promptly ordered a ticket, said fuck-it and went ahead and got a camping pass as well. I figure the lineup (I freaking love Ott!) should bring out an interesting crowd, right?
So, it starts Thursday (well, Wednesday night if you are camping) and as the days approach I find myself getting more and more anxious rather than more and more excited. People keep telling me "make friends with your neighbors and you'll have a blast", but what if I pitch my tent next to a group of douchey drunk teens?
Should I be posting something on craigslist to try and find someone at least in my age bracket to tag along with? Do people who aren't very social go to these kinds of events alone? I imagine not...
Anyone here ever been to this particular festival? Whats the general attitude of people like?
I figure I can drop some MDMA/MDA at least one night, maybe some mescaline or a 2c compound another, all of which always make me pretty comfortable in my skin/friendly/outgoing. Probably a good idea to stay away from heavier psychedelics under the circumstances, right? What's security like trying to get into these places? Do they run a dog through the attendees on the way in? How well do I have to hide small quantities of psychoactives?
Lastly, am I just overthinking the living shit out of this?
T.

You'll be good. Camp Bisco is a great time. I believe they changed locations from when I went in 2010 but the crowd will be the same. A lot of mellow people on drugs. Pop some Molly and LSD and let loose. Don't over think it.

Been to sunshine daydream and there was zero searching. Loads of marketable product. The first banaroo did look through the window of the car. Once again loads of product. They seem more concerned about a dog getting in at the fests I've been at.

I can't speak for camp bisco. I've never really gotten into The Disco Biscuits, though I have heard that scene is different/better on the west coast.
Where in PA are you from? I'm from Eastern PA myself and now in Philly. PA is kind of a weird place, there are some incredibly depressing rural areas, especially coal mining country where I know I could never live, but there are definitely regions that are much more open minded and really nice, even in the rural areas. It might be worth it to consider moving - especially if you're in a position in your life where you're not tied down.
I have yet to go to any shroomery gatherings though I fully intend to eventually, I know there's lots of us out here in Eastern PA, and the surrounding NE - a lot of people go to festivals and meet up, and while I'm not sure about Camp Bisco, I know that there's a ton of shroomerites that meet up at smaller fests in PA - maybe some of them will chime in.
Sorry that I can't give you a more specific answer but I just wanted to let you know that there's areas of PA where plenty of us weirdos exist and you're not alone - and as someone that knows the state and knows some of those areas, I feel for you and hope you find your people.

I've ran into shroomerites on accident at music festivals just by recognizing them from Pics of Pubbers.

I realized I was chilling with a shroomerite once when he was showing me art on his phone and I saw shroomery graphics. Don't think he's an active poster, at least not in the pub - though I was embarrassed, never asked his username or brought it up, and never mentioned it at all.
Super smooth.

I never hang out with my friends at festivals. I disappear immediately the first interesting thing I see.
We hang out all the time. We run into each other and tell funny stories and vanish again. Hug it out. Bye Felicia.

It wasn't so much that..I was just on a ton of acid and idk, I felt weird bringing it up, but I felt weird in general too. Connor if you're reading this, you still have my favorite piece

You're from western PA iirc. Don't lump us all in that mess.
pittsburghs okay I guess.
but yeah, eastern pa is alright. Southeast PA is honestly beautiful and very neat.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
Pirate, I'm from Elmhurst, a small town right outside of Scranton. Yes Scranton, home to the anthracite museum and Lackawanna coal mine tour... Currently had to move back in with my parents (my father is having health issues), but believe me, I am DYING to get out out of this area. Once the old man gets better, I really will start looking for employment near a larger population center. I'm not spending the rest of my life around here.
Shroomery gatherings. You know, I've been of member of this board (various names) since I birthed my first cake when I was about 15 and I've never looked into the gatherings. Again, something to check out. Thanks!
Damn! I was up in the air between Peach and Bisco, went with the former. I was going by the artists. They didn't seem to have as good a lineup this year at Peach as previous years.
"Pa basically sucks ass The culture is primarily that of bud light, football, and bad genetics "
Isn't that fucking truth!
Definitely feeling better about this whole thing. Thanks guys!

I'm from upstate NY I live in PA, working on a business over here.
I thoroughly believe the vast majority of this state is in either cultural, economic, or social decay. You're correct though my area is particularly bad.

Ah okay, yeah, that area's a bit depressing. I know it well and head up there sometimes cuz my family has a lake house round there(ish).
I would definitely suggest heading out to some of the smaller fests in the area, check out meetup.com and look into your local art and music communities in and around scranton/wilkesbarre. I know a ton of alternative people who are into psychedelic shit around the carbon county area(closer to the lehigh valley tho) so it might be worth it to put your feelers out and check out anything that might draw those folks out - like I said, music and art is a sure bet.Quote:

they don't call it pennsyltucky for nothing bby. But no I agree. There is something particularly haunting about those old, eerie towns, and when you realize how much of the state is run down and in complete economic despair, it's really quite shocking.
But really you should check out the other half of it - particularly The Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton area, Bucks County, and Philly which comprises Southeastern/Eastern PA - way cooler and a good job hub.Quote:

Philly is a lot of fun too though. It's a little wild tho, and has a lot of ugly. But it's a lot of fun and it has it's beautiful parts too.

I like to refer to it as Philthadelphia myself
And ya, tons of hillbillies - even just outside of Philly in the rich liberal mainline and bucks county. Philadelphia in the East, Pittsburgh in the West, Alabama in the center.
There are some hubs of culture though. It's kind of cool to come across them - places like lewisburg and jim thorpe - you're just driving on all these windy roads through mountains and forest through these little historic towns and villages that are super run down and sometimes you come across real gems.
I don't really plan on staying here for the rest of my life - or at least, I'd like to get out, stretch my legs and live somewhere far away for a little bit(though I could totally see myself settling down in a place like New Hope, PA when I'm older and have more money) but I definitely still think PA is an interesting, albeit weird and mildly fucked up place.
At least I don't have to tell people I'm from New Jersey (jk NJ shroomers I've got love for you too)

I went to Camp Bisco in 2011 when it was still in upstate NY and it was my first camp out festival. I didn't want to leave. It felt like I was on another planet.. in the best way.. everything was really laid back. The only thing they gave a shit about was making sure no one snuck in nitrous tanks. That was the only thing they searched cars for at the entry.
I went with a group of friends but one of my favorite memories was walking alone through the camp sites with a lantern around 5 am searching for oxy's and xanax. It was so much fun meeting a bunch of really cool strangers and trading drugs with them. Everyone I met was super nice and I ended up hanging out with them again before I left. I probably wouldn't have interacted with new people had I not gone on that early morning mission by myself so I'm considering going to a festival alone because I don't have any friends interested in going.
You reminded me of an awesome post on reddit I think you might like: https://www.reddit.com/r/festivals/comments/3q6q24/going_to_a_music_festival_alone/

Thank you for that link! That's exactly what I was looking for! As for trading drugs with strangers...I actually have plans on taking various...err...samples from my rather large library of exotic psychedelics. I have a strong suspicion that giving away a couple doses of 2c-t-7 or DMT may in fact be a wonderful way to start a friendship with whomever I'm camped next to (assuming they are into psychedelics that is).
Bisco 2011...wasn't that the first time Shpongled played in the US?

Isn't that the truth! Any H.P. Lovecraft fans out there...? Heh.
I actually didn't realize just how much of that there was in PA until rather recently. A friend of mine just got into metal detecting and wanted to go check out some ghost towns in the area. I can't believe how many totally abandoned or near abandoned towns there are with in a two hour drive of my house, stick to the interstate and you never see them. "Centralia" was a trip, real life Silent Hill. I'm guessing the vast majority of these places have something to do with coal mines drying up.

H.P. Lovecraft is good shit.
I've yet to go to Centralia, though I should before they do something about it - I just tend to do a lot of driving on back roads throughout Eastern PA and I love finding old mysterious little towns I've never been to - I've always kind of a been raised or lived around the major population hubs of Eastern PA so sometimes I get out there and realize how big the state is.
I think sometime in the coming weeks I'm gonna organize a small road trip through the state and travel some of those winding roads that I haven't. I try to avoid the turnpike and other major highways when I can unless I'm really trying to get somewhere fast(er), run down or not, PA is a beautiful state to drive through when you take the back roads.
You'll do fine dude.
Stick around these parts too - we've got a fine collection of cool members from PA and neighboring states.

Tell me about it. I'm usually more active over at the DMT-Nexus, but this has been my go to community (whether I post frequently or not) for over a decade and a half and when it came down to asking an awkward question, I posted it here. I forget what a great bunch of people hang out at this place. Definitely got to check in more often.
And you should definitely check out Centralia, you can light a match by holding it to the road. I mean come on now, what more can you ask for from an abandoned town? Just don't forget your gas mask....

That sounds like a great idea Actually one of the people I met at bisco gave me a little bit of dmt which I ended up smoking at the peak of an acid trip during shpongle. I'm not sure if that was their first time playing in the states or if that would count because raja ram wasn't there.

Raja Ram was definitely there. That was the first ever Live Shpongle set in the United States. That was so much fun. What a truly weird crowd

Bisco was the most shit fest I ever went to.
Just everything went wrong and it ended up being a terrible time.
From friends getting arrested, to our campsites getting flooded out by rain.
It sucked.

I remember custies managing to get arrested in that long ass car line that stretched down that rural street next to the fairground
Basically started partying way too early before they were able to check in. Drinking brews and car hopping

That is really the only possible way to get arrested at Camp Bisco. You didn't even make it inside. That is just a fail

To be fair, alot of people get rolled getting into festivals. The local police have a fucking field day. Im ultra paranoid and only go to west coast festivals where the drug laws are lax, but I could see how things could go haywire real quick in those but fuck nowhere towns.
Also, bisco is known for having a motorcycle gang run security. Many stories of people being robbed and shaken down for the drugs by them. I wont go to deep into that because ive never been, and ive heard they changed the location.

Yeah but getting beat up and having money stolen from you is better than getting arrested. Bisco used to be a hard festival to get popped at. Cops really will leave you alone for the most part once you get in line. I used to get trashed in line and do coke and K and never got in any kind of trouble. They just don't care there
But yeah the new location sucks. The bikers made Bisco so lawless because they wouldn't allow cops on the festival grounds
When Bisco used to be in NY, I really don't think there were too many festivals that got crazier than Camp Bisco. Our crowd is crazy enough, but add no rules at all except for no tanks? Yeah, shit got nuts. Totally out of control

Well, of course the cops leave you alone inside, its private property. You know whats better then being arrested or beat up? Having a good time without being hassled by anyone. Come check out a festival in California sometime. I feel for you guys though.

OK, so no partying in the car and avoid the mercenary security force if possible. Got it!
I'll let you all know how it goes. Thanks for the input guys!

I think bisco sucks, but have fun buddy.
I've never had any problem drinking in line to get into a fest

If you think Camp sucks then you probably never went to it when it was in NY. That fest was sick back then. The old Camp's before EDM blew up were really fun too

Just wanted to follow this up with HUGE thank you to everyone who responded. Too hungover to get too into it, but let's just say EASILY the best few days of my life. If the music wasn't enough (and it absolutely was!), the people would have made up for it. Never met so many wonderful weirdos. Talked to so many people from so freaking far away spending the summer driving around the country hitting up festivals. I TOTALLY get that now. Not surprisingly, all the misfits, the rejectamenta of society compiled into one place is a recipe for a banging time. It's TRULY something else not being the "weirdest guy in the room". I think that may be the first time in my life I felt like I actually belonged somewhere.
The atmosphere was amazing, the energy palpable and completely contagious. Every stranger who came up and hugged me, every random high five, every "Happy Bisco!" made me grin like a retard (though the acid may have had a hand in that too). And the gorgeous hippy chicks with bandaid bras were certainly a welcome change from everyday mundane NEPA life.
In the end, my sister came and spent two nights with me. For the record, me and my sister have almost nothing in common. She is terrified of psychedelics. I'm not kidding when I say she actually beleives there was a person who thinks they are a glass of spillable orange juice from LSD and that that person went to our high school. With that said, here is us after 25mg of 4-AcO-DMT:

I think that says something about the atmosphere there.
The heat was a nightmare (95 during the day and around 75 at night, my tiny tent was like an oven). I picked a horrible area in the woods simply because it was available and I didn't feel like lugging the cooler any further (no, I didn't see the giant signs saying "shuttle"...). Hammocks next time. Unfortunately it wasn't the most social of camping areas, but I ended up spending most of my time with a group in their upright (my god, people certainly come prepared to these things don't they? The rugs were a nice touch...), I mentioned it was my first festival and this group was going to make damn sure I had a good time. The walk to the campsite was murder. My legs are almost entirely useless and if I didn't have a camel pack, I probably would've died from dehydration. Totally worth it!
Gonna start making a concerted effort to track down the counter culture in my area. It's great to find that not everyone is an asshole! After I sleep for the next three days that is.
Thanks guys!

Next time go to a smaller fest, it's even better vibes man! I'm glad you had a great time! Bisco is like an intro fest and now that you understand fests a bit better, you have so many more options open to you.
What were your favorite sets of the weekend?

Yea, I'm going to look into everything within driving distance. Maybe start about five monotubs so I have the cash to invest in new gear/all the hopping about.
Griz was my absolute favorite, Gryffin and Nghtmre were stellar (the bass, enhanced as I was, was out of this world, borderline transcendental), loved Lotus, RL Grime (first time I heard him, awesome!), Space Jesus, The New Deal (another new experience for me), Anna Lunoe, Ott (huge fan of Ott, one of the main reasons I went), and about a half dozen more who I didn't know by name. I spent a lot of time stuck in one location listening to DJs/bands I didn't recognize just because moving was too hard (loaded as I was), and I didn't get a map/schedule until Friday. A lot of the first day I spent walking from stage to stage finding the biggest crowds. Good way to get turned onto new artists .
I'm not a huge fan of the Biscuits (not that I don't like them, they just aren't my favorite), but the two sets of theirs I checked out seemed a bit...I dunno, let's just say if this weekend was anything to go on, their studio recordings are better than their live sets. Everyone else I saw more than made up for it though.
