How to use copyrighted music on YouTube 1

Check out the comment from this YouTuber on his Bobby Darin - "Mack The Knife" video. He claims that YouTube tried to make him remove the audio from his video, but that he found a "super secret" way around it. Does anyone know what the secret is? Thanks.

They might be editing the sound file in the inaudible frequency ranges so that the acoustic ID does not get picked up by copyright programs just scanning through everything. Just a guess though, not sure.
If that's how he's doing it, the copyright holder can still make a claim, however for more obscure or older music, this won't be common.

That's an interesting idea. Does it fuck with the quality of the audio at all?

Not if it's either extremely subtle, or outside of the regular frequency ranges we can hear. MP3s and other file types cover frequencies well outside the audible range. Though, the crawlers they use may only look at stuff within the audible range to combat this. I'm not completely sure.

You could be right. I just found this video where a guy just changed the pitch a little bit (with a program like Audacity) and says he made it work? I might give it a try.
Thanks Patrick!

Changing pitch works to avert copyright laws as far as I know but a lot of viewers will be pissed off about it I can't stand listening to songs that are pitched slightly up or down. Drives me insane

I can totally relate, but I'm making a video where the main focus isn't the music at all. In fact, I doubt my viewers will know what the original sounds like.

Okay, I just tried it and it didn't work. I found another YouTube video that said to change the tempo. Didn't work. So I changed the tempo AND the pitch and it didn't work. Fail.
I assume it'll work eventually, if you mess with the tempo, pitch or whatever until it sounds ridiculous, but who wants that.

Youtube runs algos to detect copyrighted videos and music. Videos are easy to get around, but music is more difficult. Changing pitch works, but annoys the fuck out of some people. I usually run the audio through a program and slow it down by 2.5%, it's barely noticeable and has worked for me before.

YouTube told me that it was copyright infringement. I made sure to check before I hit "publish" and deleted it when I saw it.

Download "Mack The Knife" by Bobby Darin from somewhere and try that first. Since that's the video that I came upon the notion of this secret. Post the video if it works.

Yeah, that's it. Maybe your demonstration would be best, if you download the song from SoulSeek or something and then upload it. If YouTube allows it without a copyright notice, tell us how you did it and post it.
