The world is changing rapidly. In a nutshell, it's a very exciting time to be alive.
Why do you grow shrooms?
Whether you're here for your first time or you've been here for 10 years you have chosen to (depending on circumstance and geographgy) break the law and grow a psychedelic drug.
We do this for different reasons and I think there is more to 'mushroom cultivation' than the act in and of itself.
I have learned so much from mushroom cultivation.
I wish that I could share that with you. I wish I could share how much joy and meaning this hobby has brought to my life. But there are no words for how I have been changed by pursuing this.
I am 'better' now, in so many ways because of it.
Are you?

At this moment, 15 or so billion Earth years into the evolution of our Universe, my first grow is crashing and burning. Im going to do my best to salvage what I can though I may "only" get a learning experience out of it. Ive analyzed my process and will have some better technique for my next grow. So yes, I am literally better - I have grown as a person generally and as a cultivator specifically.

That's a perfect response from a first timer.
You sound like you care about your technique. That will take you further than anything Ferris.

Thanks for the ego boost!

Breaking the law is running a factory and producing pounds of them with total disregard of the hands they fall into.
Hobbiests grow for a hobby...no $ value.
I've met countless want-to-be shroom gangsters in my years that see them as cash proceeds rather then gathering with some buddies and having a good time.
I personally have a hard on for mushrooms in general....from the time I was 3 and got in shit for picking the lawn mushrooms and trying to eat them.... p.cubes are also great for musical inspiration if you play a instrument...

I'm doing it to gain some responsibility in something greater than myself. To create, culture, and comfort.
I grow to give most to my partner to help him keep splitting migraines at a bearable level. He usually doses ~1g-1.5g on his "Psychedelic Sunday" after church. Lucky for him he is always comfortable with how mushrooms make him feel.
I personally haven't joined in doing them with him yet since my last experience with 1g mushroom tea was VERY uncomfortable. I am afraid to experience what I experienced last time which was lots of light headedness, shortness of breath, shaky, sweating, tachycardia, high blood pressure, etc.

growing cured me of boredom and lack of life. I don't question the reasons I grow or the effect it has on me anymore, but most recently, it has led to an interest in soil, microbes, sustainable agricultural (for both plants and mushrooms), and the biological process of decay and nutrient transformation.
I love mushrooms….every one of them.
psychedelic, edible, medicinal…. they're ALL fucking magic

I started out wanting to grow drugs, ended up loving mycology as a whole and getting more interested in edibles everyday.
My wish for the future is to find a mushroom farm for me to work in, I suspect that every mushroom farm in my country buys the spawn from overseas. Getting someone to let me do the culture work for them benefits the both of us, I would be doing something I love and they would be saving money by making their own spawn.

I'll preface this post by saying that over the years, I did a whole bunch of drugs, mainly psychedelics and dissociatives but a lot of other nastier drugs I regret doing. However, I pretty much gave them all up a bit over 2 years ago.
In the past months, I started thinking about going back into the psychedelic world, and thus decided to grow shrooms. They were, along with LSD, my favorite psychedelic back when I used to dose almost weekly.
I now grow my own shrooms because I like the idea of being self-sufficient. I hate buying LSD that I can't trust, or ordering cactus to grind up, buying shrooms from random dealers or even worse, buying shady research chemicals. With shrooms, I know exactly what I'm taking and don't depend on anyone. I don't bother anyone, I don't encourage the black market, I make my own spore prints and just continue my grows.
I'll admit I have no interest in mycology beyond growing shrooms, though I do have an interest for experimenting, for example with sclerotia-producing strains.

I have always been curious of the world around me, what everything is made of and how it works. I have always asked why. I have never been "normal", made a bunch of electrical schematic flash cards when I was twelve and learned all the symbols. When other kids asked for toys for Christmas I'd want a telescope. Very into physics from an early age and started building tesla coils, and using things for purposes they weren't intended for.
Later on at about 15 I became interested in plants and entheogens. It wasn't until years later that a friend taught me to hunt mushrooms. My first trip I was driving home from his house at night tripping balls, not a soul on the road but me. I couldn't stop smiling, thinking this is what tripping should be. Feeling so content, feelings of pure love washing over me sweeping away all the bullshit, like I was seeing the world for the first time.
The hobby has taught me patience and changed me for the better, mushrooms themselves have also taught me so much, I feel forever indebted to spread the spores, love and knowledge.

I've been a cultivator for almost two years now. I've taken months off and gotten back into it, then taken more breaks.
My first attempts at cultivation were back in early 2014, with some grow kits. Needless to say, I failed miserably, and thought that shrooms would be impossible to grow.
But, late one night, I decided to do as much research as possible. Navigating through all the teks was confusing at first, but I eventually got my feet wet when I bought a presto, a bag of WBS, a dozen quart jars, and a spore syringe.
By April of that year, I had successfully grown enough shrooms for a great trip, and it was!
Overall, this hobby has taught me an incredible amount of patience and attention to detail in order to get the results I'm looking for. Sharing with some close friends is a great way to spread the love. It's humbling to know that I created this amazing substance from scratch with my bare hands, and people are benefiting greatly from my dedication and hard work.

When I first started growing it was early into my college career as a biochemistry student....I just thought it would be a fun thing to do while I learned advance science.... After I switched to cellular biology almost exclusively because of mushroom cultivation....
To me....this is my religion....I don't know....the way each of us form our own unique bond to our cultures...and when I consume the fruits I created....it puts me closer to God than most people can ever hope to be....whatever God is to them....to me it's in the magic invoked throughout the entirety of a mushroom grow.
This hobby has inspired me in so many ways....it's allowed me to grow so much...from leading me along the path I took to become a college graduate, to ultimately meeting and falling in love with the woman that would be my wife.....
Behind the scenes to my ongoing fictitious escapades cultivating magic mushrooms, I've written a business plan and budget for creating a legitimate tax paying mushroom farm.....I want to go to grad school for this....but one thing at a time....I could go on and on and on...and probably will go on and on at some point....but this is all for now...cool thread!

I had typed out quite a lot to say for this post. Then i deleted it. Then i did it again. Then deleted it, again. This time I'll just leave it.
If you have read any of my previous posts, anywhere, then you know i have a hard time getting what i am thinking out of my head. Only time i can get close is with guitar.music.. I mean, I am terrible with words. And we all know it!
so, Im just gonna say this:
I actually was inspired by some of these responses. I really appreciate how mycology can change the way we perceive life. Both from the hobby and the fruit. It has made my life so much more fulfilling than it was. It has made me connect more with everything around me. It helped me finally leave heroin behind, for good, after i lost my life to it. It literally helped me get my life back the way i wanted, no.. needed it.
And im so grateful for that.
I love the effect it has on me, and everyone else who enjoys it, and uses it properly.
I just love it. And there are too many reasons to list as to why. That's the best I will ever get to explaining how i feel about mycology, and some other psychedelics(LSD, DMT, ect). It will always have a place in my heart.
You know, we are all just people. And we all just want to be happy.
Well, enough mushy stuff(HA!).
-------------------- -The wise man never stops seeking knowledge.
-I wanna feel the change consume me, feel the outside turning in. I wanna feel the metamorphosis and cleansing I've endured within.

I only trip a few times a year and prefer to eat liberty caps when I do which are abundant here so I don't really have a reason other than I enjoy the process. Growing anything is fun but mushrooms especially are cool because of how fast they grow.

I originally got on this path because I had read several articles on psychedelic's regenerating brain tissue. My grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimers/dimensia and wanted to try and help her. She passed right when I perfected my technique and started to blow up. Then I continued on my journey because it was interesting, fun and addicting.

I am growing to meet the aliens and for help quitting smoking. I have done 3.5 grams a couple times and 4 once. Lots of voices but no visuals. If i can grow an ounce I'm tempted to lemon tek it all to get visuals, or at least 14 grams.

Be careful, potency can vary a lot with cubes. Some clones I have are easily 4 times the strength as others. I have once had a completely bunk batch as well. Unless you are growing with known genetics, potency is going to be a roll of the dice every time.
Also penis. Albino penis.
