Damaged cake
    #23427958 - 07/09/16 10:53 PM (7 years, 7 months ago)

The clamp lamp light fell from its perch and sliced into a cake. Left a 3 inch incision about 1/4 inch deep. Is peroxide useful at this point? Is it more prone to contamination? Thanks guys

OK. It's a pretty minor little slice, so I have a lot of confidence in it. First grow. Started pinning like CRAZY today. Literally 100 pins overnight on 3 cakes, so it's strong. I wanna post pictures, but it is such a pain in the ass on my phone and I'm tired. I'll try tomorrow

You would be surprised to see just how much abuse mycelium is able to withstand when it's healthy.

Peroxide would only help weaken the mycelium and probably lead to contamination.... it's use is for treating areas already infected with mold to prolong the spread while a flush finishes....

Just so you know...

It should be OK if it recovers.

I'm sorry, where exactly did you see me suggesting the use of peroxide?

I was referring to the damage done to the cake. Duh.

I've damaged cakes badly before (cut a huge chunk off it by mistake, dropped it, etc). They always recovered. They usually bruise blue a bit then just go on producing fruits. Mycelium is very hardy.

All that matters is that it's clean. People crumble cakes up with cheese graters and they do just fine on coir.
