I mean, yeah, there's self defense, and I'm glad in the US people who are not martial artists, little old ladies, guys who might get picked on, can have an equaliser and deterrant.
But that's not what the second amendment is for. Self defense is an un-leanable right of every single living organism. By writing it in on a piece of paper (bill of rights) it's a reminder to those who'd want to take that right away.

So, until then, give everyone who doesn't want a gun (least likely to use it) a gun, gun safety training, monthly training assessments at a firing range. Have everyone have guns, including criminals (because, we all fuck up, the difference between a criminal and not criminal is the latter haven't been caught). Have them all have guns, until people, unless they are fucking mad/suicidal (sad, but always will happen) give up violence.
Then keep them, as a reminder of the barbaric time we used to live in when people would loose their lives and be stabbed over the most trivial & fucking stupid of reasons.

And for personal protection or hoe defense Semi auto is the better choice, at least ime/o much more control lots less recoil

I think party politics encourages this line of thinking. Only one of the two major parties remotely gives a shit about appealing to a certain group, therefore every member of that group must agree 100% on that party's stances on every other unrelated topic.
