Im studying the practice questions for general knowledge on youtube. Does anyone know how similar the questions are on the practice test to the actual written test? im supposed to go to the dmv on monday and idk if i should attempt the test based on info on youtube or whether i should just inquire on studying material. I wanna get my learners permit already dammit

If you feel confident in yourself I say go for it. If not, I'd download an actual book off the internet and read that.

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Psalm 12:6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Revelation 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

Shit, which part?
I know drivers who clear 100k easy a year easy and they can always find work, OTR is the least paying but it's still a lot better than some 9-5 burger flipper job

Well lemme in. What kinda driving you do? Does it pay well. Is it commerical driving? My goal is to get out of resturants bro. Been thru job after job as waiter and busser. I cant take it anymore. Thought prehaps if i get a cdl id be set. Also, i think it has to do with location. Im near a major city so there seems to be alota offers, at least from what i can see.

I do courier work for Bank of America. Delivering their bank work and stuff. It's not commercial. Pay is serviceable but the benefits are nonexistent because it's contract work, but what you're talking about is probably different.
Driving, particularly longer distance commercial driving can be good work. Good pay. The only downside is the time away from home and family/friends, but it beats the hell out of most restaurant positions, bro. Plus as long as you do your job without any hitches, you're on your own with no supervisors constantly hovering over your back.

I got hired at a place that send you to school to get a cdl. You have to sign a contract that you work for them for a year. Starts off at 40,000$ a year. Just need to take care of a few tickets , sit out a warrant and take a dot physical which includes a drug screen. Training is 3 weeks and once that is done, I'm supposed to do a dry run from Dallas to Houston.. after which I'll be leaving town for 4- 5weeks doing on the road work going from border to border, ocean to ocean. I'm stocked and excited. Once the year contract is up, I can continue to work for them or work where ever. Just needa make sure I don't screw this up.

Nice man, truck driving is a good gig. Hope it goes well. Do you get a certain amount extra per mile or anything?

That would be a great profession. Sadly they are very strict on testing people who have CDL's

congrats dude...I used to have a CDL but my dumbass came upon a roadblock literally next to my house and I got a DUI. Probably could've tried to get it back or do whatever I had to but in the VERY BRIEF OTR driving career I had led me to say NOPE!My nerves just can't handle driving a fucking huge machine across this land...but everyones different. Good luck!

Long haul truck driving will be one of the first jobs to be automated by robots. Be sure to stay healthy and best of luck OP.

Congratulations! I really think the hardest part of the whole thing is that first general knowledge test to get that permit. I have a B class, mainly since I had no time to practice with a trailer. Didn't want to fail the drive test because of a trailer. The endorsement tests are pretty much easy, air, combo, tanker, not sure about hazmat, but fuck that shit.

the permit test for Texas includes combinations and Section 14: special requirements; which is exclusive to Texas. It talks about specific lighting positions and specifications, road permits, farming equipment and rules, ect. I wish that it were the general knowledge. That section 14 threw me for a loop

Two issues I can think of. It depends what you're carrying. If its on slip plates or pallets, then they unload it with a forklift, so that's cool. If it's not then many times the driver has to unload the whole truck. Second, in Illinois and I'm assuming many states are similar, if you have a CDL your alcohol limit goes from .08BAC to .04. If your driving a big truck you shouldn't be drinking at all, but the stupid thing about this law is that it applies when you aren't working. You could be on a 2 day weekend or a 14 day vacation and they can still give you a DUI for 1-2 beers.
But for the written test, there should be all the Texas regs on the internet.
