I found these in a Staffordshire cow fields, they look like libs to me from what I've seen but I'm not sure :/ I have a picture of the bottom and the stem but the file size was too large.

Still a bit early in the year for them imo
You will definitely find libs in cow fields but the biggest factor for me so far has been altitude...hope that helps

I went to the same field today and found one large pale mushroom with a pointy cap, is that a lib?

No but that isn't an ID either, you would need to show us a picture.

These are some pictures of the cap and gills. Also, by the time I had gotten off the field because it's my second time picking I don't know what to do post-picking the mushroom so it went brown and mushy. How can I prevent this?

Conocybe apala. Libs are sturdier but what to put them in depends on the weather, if they are dry you can give them airflow in a basket or at least a paper bag, otherwise they might just have to sweat for a few hours. You won't need to pick this one again and libs won't do that.

What months should I begin looking for liberty caps, or are there any other kinds of psychedelic mushrooms I can find in the meantime?

After the football, and when the temperatures are dropping and there's lots of rain. As stated above altitude can bring earlier finds, but during summer it is pot luck at best. Get a field guide and look for just edibles in the woods some time after rains.

Hmm, possibly but you'd find a lot more in a month or so. They love silver birches because of their nature to trade nutrients with the tree in exchange for carbs.
Before you rush off though, amanitas are not to be messed with, if you eat an amanita you're not 1000% sure is safe, you risk death.
If you do find A Muscaria and get it ID'd, read up on how to prepare it safely to eat, as one of the compounds in A Muscaria (ibotenic acid) is a powerful neurotoxin. Stay safe

I thought Amanita muscaria were just exaggerated on the deadliness.

They are for the most part, but they also contain ibotenic acid, which is indeed a powerful neurotoxin. But IIRC with proper preparation and cooking, you can convert the majority of ibotenic acid into muscimol, which is what you're after if you are interested in muscarias. Either way, take 'er easy with fly agarics, they can be cool but extreme caution is necessary.
